Re: Favourite book

I've only read the first ten or so books of the Discworld novels -- so far, I hasten to add; I will read them all! -- but I do love the Rincewind books (I love that coward ) and I think my favourite book is possibly Sourcery. Mind you, I also really enjoy the Witch books. Granny is awesome and Nanny Ogg is hilarious.
But then I also liked Mort because DEATH featured quite heavily in it...

You're right, it's very hard to choose!

Re: Favourite book

Mine are Nightwatch and Going Postal. I like the morality tale-ness of them, without feeling like I've been hit over the head with it.

Also Vimes and Moist are wonderful!

Re: Favourite book

There's just so many! I'd probably have to say Night Watch, though.

Second and third would be Small Gods, and Lords and Ladies, in that order, though Reaper Man and Hogfather take honorable mentions.

Re: Favourite book

I can't really pick one book, I love the whole discworld! I think the one I most enjoyed reading would be Thud!, but that doesn't make it the best.

Re: Favourite book

The books with Death in them definitely, though Granny Weatherwax runs in a close second. There is something about Death though ... maybe it's the horse called Binky and the cats ... The ability to talk in UPPER CASE is not too bad either.

Re: Favourite book

I can never choose a favourite discworld book because pTerry is capable of writing consistently good, if not better.

Re: Favourite book

To choose the best Discworld book? Hard, very hard. It's usually the last one I read.

Re: Favourite book

Small Gods without a doubt.
His attacks on organised religion are hilariously vicious and near to the knuckle. Plus the scenes where Om gatecrashes the home of the gods and nuts one of them is a classic

Re: Favourite book

Usually my favourites are;
The Fifth Elephant - Uberwald, the Watch, dwarves, plus the werewolf/vampire relations were great!
Lords and Ladies - I love the sinister elves, and anything with the witches.
Night Watch - just very moving, and cleverly written (not to say the others aren't either). I also really liked Thud, for similar reasons, but that could also be because I've read it very recently.

I couldn't really get into Going Postal, and that along with the Last Continent have been the only ones I wasn't particularly keen on.
