Re: Stardust the Movie

do people think that the film's better if you haven't read the book? I went to see it, not even realising that it was a book, which is shocking considering how much I love Gaiman's work, and I loved it and went back the next week, but afterwards I talked to some people who had read the book who said that they were disappointed by it. This also happened with The Golden Compass....

Re: Stardust the Movie

I loved both book and movie. I thought Robert De Niro was excellent and pulled off his part unexpectedly well. I love the fact that he played Captain Shakespear and not another version of Robert De Niro, like he always seems to do. I'd count Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino in that club; actors who really get paid to act the same characters for the most part. But De Niro never really had a 'De Niro' moment. It was great.
And the soundtrack was one of the best I've hear din a long, long time.

Re: Stardust the Movie

Have only JUST seen this at a little local cinema and absolutely loved it! In fact I agree with Teresa's reaction on the first page of this thread. I haven't read the book but will now.

Although I quite enjoyed de Niro's over the top performance, that character moves the story away from "naive romance" which the story would otherwise be - which was a bit startling.

I was sorry Ricky Gervais had to be killed - the chicken voice was enough punishment I think.

Great little movie and I'm surprised it didn't make more of a splash. I enjoyed it heaps more than the overpriced Golden Compass. Wonder how much it cost to make.
