I think it is about 6 months in the book. Not sure why they shortened it in the movie.

The movie is certainly worth watching, not as good as the book, but certainly worth a couple of hours of your time.

Re: Stardust

Never read the book, but thought the movie was clever and entertaining. I just bought it on DVD after having watched it in the theater. Robert DeNiro as the captain was a major hoot. Great fun.

Didn't the pirate crew say - I'm quoting from memory - "We always knew you was a whoopsie"?

And what about the exchanged winks with Humphrey at the coronation? Couldn't have been spelt out more clearly, surely?

Re: Stardust

Oh I think Robert De Nero's charicter was gay, it s fairly storngly hinted at througout his scenes. I liked this film immensly, me my wife and a friend took my friends nieces to see it. My wife was reluctant but enjoyed it when she got there.

Did anyone else spot the blue blood in the bath?

That was a neat touch the blue blood ... and calling the candle Babylon after the rhyme.

Re: Stardust

I actually enjoyed this film. It was a bit on the "light" side but worth it.
Bobby De Nero's performance was great fun.

I love this movie! It ranked right up there with Princess Bride!

Re: Stardust

I enjoyed the book but I think they made a bunch of changes to the movie that made it much more exciting to see than reading it.

Re: Stardust

Watched this a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, you can't help but compare a fairtale-with-a-twist movies to the Princess Bride and imo it's not that good (what is ) but it's certainly in the same spirit. I'm so often disappointed by movies (which I'm sure is partly because we just hear too much about them before hand) that it's a real treat to sit down only half knowing what the movie is about and not expecting much, then have it turn out to be so much fun.

I watched it last year when it came out over here, and loved it. I think that and Beowulf are my favourite movies at the moment.

I really love the soundtrack as well.

Wow, I just watched the film and it seems Gaiman really changed his own story to fit the film especially alot of the events leading up to, as well as the ending.

Re: Stardust the Movie (2008)

I feel a bit left out because I didn't enjoy this film at all. I tried my hardest to forget about the book and enjoy the film as a separate thing entirely, but I kind of felt like the whole feel of the book was lost in the film and it was just another Hollywood fantasy film. The acting seemed really wooden, I sincerely dislike Claire Danes anyway and I didn't even enjoy Robert De Niro in it.

I'm obviously the minority though, so I'm not saying this to disagree with anyone else, just voicing my opinion.

Re: Stardust the Movie (2008)

Moggle, Gaiman just sold the film rights to the book, and someone else wrote the script - Jonathan Ross's wife was one of them. Personally I found the film 10 times better then the book......and Michelle Pfeiffer was wonderful......(sighs heavily)...

Not from what I've read. Gaiman was directly involved in the process of adaptating the book to the film and discussed the difficulties involved, the changes from the book, etc.

Aah...hmmm.....just shows you can't rely on journalistic sources. 'Twas in Empire magazine that I read re the scriptwriters, as Gaiman was heavily involved in writing another script at the time. But it's gotta make sense that you're involved in adapting your own novel, hasn't it? I certainly will, when they turn my best-seller into a film or three.....
