Renaissance

Hey yall, I just watched the movie Renaissance a couple of days ago and just wanted to let you know that it's pretty good. I don't know if everyone has heard of it but it's a new realease and is an animated movie set in the future of paris. All the animation is in black and white and is actually quite good. The premise is kinda similar to resident evil in a way because it all revolves around a woman working as a sceintist for some kind of cosmetics company or something and they have the same premise as what you see in the trailer for resident evil 2 about staying young forever. Anyway, the woman goes missing and the main character is a cop that goes searching for her.
As far as the animation goes, like I said it was very good but then again it was still black and white and occasional shades of gray with the exception of like two scenes that have color so in a way it was kind of visually boring. Also there is quite a lull in the middle of the movie and you spend alot of time wondering what is really happening and what the significance of the woman going missing really is. But I can tell you that once you understand and you reach the ending then it is really good because the ending is the best part of the movie. So, if you can brave the slow parts of the movie then I'll tell you that the ending is worth the wait. Check it out if you have the chance.

Re: Renaissance

Just watched this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure about the use of Black and White without a Greyscale though. It makes for a very stylistic piece of work but, after 100 minutes of viewing, is a bit harsh on the eyes. In saying that, the cityscapes and torch-lit tunnel scenes lend themselves very well to this style.

On the whole, a very good movie with some fine setpieces and well worth a watch

Re: Renaissance

I agree with you totally when it come to the animation. Something about the use of black and white ink that after about forty five minutes of viewing it becomes very aggravating. The animation was stellar but I just couldn't get used to the lack of color. But it was a great movie though. I think when it comes to the animation they just wanted to do something different because when you think about it in relation to the premise of the movie, there really is no reason for it. It doesn't really compliment the theme of the movie or offer any discernable undertone to the plot so I think it was strictly for market purposes. But who knows, some people may like it. The story makes up for the annoying animation.
