Re: Discworld reading order Thanks for the link, pyan. I actually knew about that thread, but what I really want to know is if there are any other books in the series that are as deeply connected as the first two. The Colour of Magic ends with a cliff hanger, and it goes straight into (well, not really, but almost) The Light Fantastic. If I read The Light Fantastic first, I think I wouldn't be too happy about all the stuff I would profit from knowing. I think I wouldn't enjoy the book as much as I did having already read The Colour of Magic.

Re: Discworld reading order Well with cliffhangers, you might want to have read Interesting Times before The Last Continent and The Last Hero. Although there aren't many books that leave you hanging really. You're going to end up reading them all several times anyway ![]()

Re: Discworld reading order it would probably be better to read them all in the order in the list and not jump ahead to WA and L&L etc and if you are going to jump ahead to WA, you should read Equal RItes first as that introduces witchcraft to the Discworld books and establishes the character of the main protagonist in WA and L&L the other difficulty in reading them out of order is that although there are the Death books, the Witches books, the Wizards books, the Watch books, etc, a lot of the characters appear in many of the different "collections" but those characters refer to things that happened in a book inbetween 2 of the books in the collection, and although not vital to the plot, in most cases, you do miss some of the in-jokes

Re: Discworld reading order I'll second Urlik. For example. Vimes appears in several of the books that he isn't the main character in (The Truth, Monstrous Regiment) and while it isn't necessary to understand who he is from the other books, it adds a little something extra. Same for someone like Lu Tze. He shows up in minor parts in books such as Small Gods, then makes grander appearances later.

Re: Discworld reading order Personally I would read them in the order of printing, because if for any reason you did not like a book or a particular character, to read all in that particular group may dampen your enjoyment, where if you read as printed you will have a breathing space so to speak and probably enjoy them more.

Re: Discworld reading order I read them in the order I got them from the library of my sister's best friend's house, which has made no chronological sense at all, except that the I read the trilogies in order. I was fine. Just randomly, how do you get a custom picture thinggy? (Forgottin What it's called. Avatar?)
