They could have gone for sheer comedy and slapstick with this episode, and it would have been fine.

If they had done this there would be someone in your place right now saying - why didn't they have a monster? They always have a monster!

That's true. But I'd rather have no monster than the Absorbalof[sp]

Re: The Role of the Companion

There's a definite lack of imagination when it comes to the monsters as well, imo. Aren't we ready for the monstrous rather than the just nasty or ugly? Daleks with emotions???? Is it too hard for the writers to imagine pure evil in a tin shell??

And a companion from another age - another geographical location would be enough - would be wonderful, I think, thaddeus6th

Re: The Role of the Companion

Yeah, the Daleks (and their 'emotions') are definitely overused.

Wasn't the fellow with the fifth doctor, ginger-haired guy who went around with Tegan, a thief? Romana was good. And Ace. Mmmmm, Ace. First crush.

Re: The Role of the Companion

Was that Turlough? There was something dodgy about him all right, wasn't there? Didn't he turn on the Doctor - or try to? It might make a good storyline for the Doctor to try and reform somebody for a change, instead of bed them. I mean, who does he think he is? James Bond??

Yes, that's the fellow!

Yeah, RTD seems to have a fixation with people fancying each other.

"Dr Who episode 317: Dalek Love Triangle"

The companion can just as well be someone whom the doctor doesn't want to get into bed or vice versa.

Am I right in thinking they are getting Rose back? Has anyone else heard this?

Re: The Role of the Companion

I really hope not. She was a good character but it's Dr Who, not Rose Tyler and A Bloke She Fancies. Personally I would've killed her off, but there we are.

Not heard anything about it, incidentally.

Re: The Role of the Companion

Rose annoyed me, Martha minus the googooo eyes at the Doctor was alright, although to be fair, Doctor Who housed in David Tennants body has me making those eyes at the telly, but..I liked Donna well enough, for a one off, but I would much prefer nana to be his new assistant. The fact that the companion stays with him through choice is what makes the difference though, this Doctor had no choice about Rose and Martha chose to leave him. HA. Being in life or death situations and constantly saving the universe next to a man who's apparently seen it all, well that's kinda romantic stuff.

They should go for a companion more inclined to mother him than snog him. Which is what they are doing with Donna I suppose, so I guess we'll see. This Doctor has a very recognisable story arc going on, true love (Rose), lost love (Rose) rebound (martha) and then back to comfy mum for a bit of scolding and chicken soup style comfort.(Sorry Ms Tate). Give the writers a break though-he is a bit too cool not to have the ladies all wanting him. (Sigh)

He is never going to get his intellectual equal, so they force him to confront his rather lacking emotional side, and both Rose and Martha did that. Whilst they are I guess supposed to be our guides through the Who universe, without his massive knowledge, they survive on heart and trust (in him), which has to be shown/explained somehow, else the romance and adventure of being the companion falls flat. IMO.

I liked her but agree with you, how long could it go on. Anyway, just found out my mysterious source may have been the News of the World so I won't hold my breath for Rose to return

Re: The Role of the Companion

For Rose to return would be cataclismically bad. Theres only story they could write and it would have to be her turning away from him deliberately, or dying, or hating him... basically it would undo the whole arc of series one and the redemtion of the Dr. Rose should be left as the lost great love of his life - we can have the doctor occationaly mooning over her - but leave her where she is. The only time I ever ever want to see Rose again is if they decided to finally finish Dr who for good and maybe (a little sugary I grant you) let the Dr run off into the Sunset with her.

I did hear that they where leaving it open for Martha to comeback though - I hope she dosent - no offence to freema and infact it was incredible acting becuase I remember that mooning fase over several guys who had been on the reebound.. but seriously I couldnt deal with another series of it - especially when its clear he loved rose - and it would be just baaaaaddddddd to get the dr to fall inlove yet again with another person.

I'm hoping for the 2009 episodes where we simply have 3 long specials rather than a series that one of them is where the Dr has gone a little off the deep end and gone bad - we get the Cybermen, Darlecs and the Master to work with the Assistant to save the Dr :P

Seriously though - lets have a male assistant next - more eye candy for the girls )
