Any UK Poster Get Analog?

My July / August double issue failed to arrive. The newsagent contacted the wholesaler and was told that "Analog has ceased publication until further notice."

The Analog website is still up and running with details of the September issue. I've sent them an e-mail but not had a reply.

Anyone in the UK received the July / August issue?

I've not heard anything about this. Very worrying if true. I'll make some enquiries and see if I can find out what's going on. Can anyone else shed any light?

Re: Any UK Poster Get Analog?

Sorry, mosaix, I don't actually subscribe, but I know a couple of people who do (or at least did, last I heard), so I've emailed them to find out whether they've received it. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back.

Re: Any UK Poster Get Analog?

I queried a friend, Ian Watson, who is the European director of the Science Fiction Writers of America (his area apparently includes Australia ), and he's heard nothing at all about Analog going down. He would have expected the SFWA to have issued notice as soon as they heard something, but there's been no communication of any kind. He's going to look into the matter.

The wholesaler is still insisting it's gone out of publication.

No news from Analog themselves although the web site is up and running.

I've placed my subscription online direct with Analog. I'll wait to see what happens.

Re: Any UK Poster Get Analog?

I've yet to hear anything back from anybody on this, sorry, moasaix. Perhaps Analog has really gone, but it strikes me as decidedly odd that no word has come out about it anywhere else. Maybe it's a distributor that has gone bust rather than the magazine itself.

Re: Any UK Poster Get Analog?

Well, I've received a confirmatory e-mail regarding my subscription.

One interesting this is that I was £3.00 per issue for 10 issues per year. But when I ordered online I got two years worth for $75 - I reckon that's about half what I was paying!

Thanks for your efforts Ian.

Re: Any UK Poster Get Analog?

Hi Guys

I've not received July/August either, but I have just got September from my local newsagent in Crediton who have supplied me unfailingly for the last 10 years. They could not get July/August and are being told by their wholesaler that there wasn't one.

So I tried magazine.cafe@comag.co.uk whose label appears on the front of my ANALOGs. They say they didn't receive it either and are trying to find out why.

At analogsf.com website forum there is a post indicating that there was a July/August issue and that readers in France received it, albeit via New Zealand? I have e-mailed Analogs back order departement for details of their service and have also contacted the online 'contact us' route and have no reply so far.

Mosaix I take it you ordered yours from the analogsf.com subscriptions department

There is a link on the ANALOG web site to 'e-analog', which takes you to fictionwise.com. This link: Fictionwise eBooks: Analog Science Fiction and Fact, July-August 2007 by Dell Magazine Authors
shows that they have the July/August issue for multiformat download for $5.09.

I haven't bought it yet as I would rather have a paper copy to keep my collection complete.

So guys where can we get a paper copy of July/August ANALOG Vol. CXXVII No. 7/8 ?

I'm still writing my column for Analog, so it's still in business.

Thumbs up Re: Any UK Poster Get Analog?

Hi - Mark Watson at Bestf.net told me this:
The UK mail order source is a guy called Ken Slater, whose been active in SF fandom for decades. Basically he gets a wodge of mags flown in from the states, and distributes them by mail. He charges very little on top of the cover price.
I contacted Ken to ask if he had a spare of the double July/August Issue of Analog. This was his reply:
Yes, can do. £4.50 post paid - cheque, credit card, or PayPal. I mailed those out 2nd May. - the October issue was mailed out 24 July; £3.15 post paid.being a "single" issue. Works out more expensive than news-stand copies, but I have them sent in by air freight from the US. Which is no longer so cheap as once it was.
Regards
Ken
So there you are, problem solved - at least for now.

Dennis
