I had that problem myself, so I know exactly what you mean (only for me, it was the later books). At the time, I thought it was just a reading phase I was going through (ie, not being able to get into a certain type of writing), but then I found out that quite a few other people had the same problem...

I'll likely reread the series when I'm waiting for the last book to come out in paperback, so the story can be fresh in my mind.
