I Can't Drive 55 -- Sammy Hagar. Not sure how it's appropriate for my 55th birthday, but it's been on my mind all day

The Drifters - Rhino Sampler - "Under the Boardwalk"

(Little early yet, but it's getting there.)

That's funny - when I posted on your b-day thread I thought about mentioning that but didn't know how it connected either - or how you felt about post-Montrose Hagar.

Well... don't be bashful... I'm not easily offended. };-}

But now were on the subject.... Coming of age in the right time and the right place, I saw Montrose/Hagar live many times, and assorted birthing pangs of Montrose headlining over Hagar's fledgling band. Yes, Hagar needed some time to grow out of the shadow of Ronnie Montrose. But I became a solid fan of Hagar.

Not always a popular opinion; but I really love the Hagar/Van Halen albums. I love the operatic depth in a hard rock singer.. Dio, Hughes, Gillan.. others even Ann Wilson. (Thinking Barracuda, not Dog and Butterfly };-}

Which brings us back to Chickenfoot: Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith.

A fun, retro, 70's style what we used to call "Hard Rock" (Not metal) Band.

Which is Now Playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd0qVum3ElY

Edit: well maybe there's a bit more to Chickenfoot thant that. As youtube videos go the A/V quality of these is pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCr2H...eature=related

Re: Now Playing...

My shuffled list hit an extra-good run:

Pantera - Cowboys from Hell - "Clash with Reality"
Testament - The New Order - "Nobody's Fault"
Iggy Pop - Lust for Life - "The Passenger"
Led Zeppelin - III - "Out on the Tiles"

Well, it's not that in general - just that nobody should have something they don't like brought to their birthday party.

Yeah - not worrying about offending, now - I've always been one of the Van Hagar haters or, more accurately, a Roth/Van Halen fan. But I do agree about Dio, especially. Great vocalist.

I liked the first one. I got distracted in the second one - dunno if that was them or me. I haven't paid any attention to them but I have to say Satch is a much better band player than I would have thought. I haven't kept up with him since an album or three around the Surfing with the Alien stuff and, while technically cool, he had the "solo artist" vibe vs. the "band" vibe that I like. But, while he was no doubt doing some soloing, it was very much teamwork in the video.
