| Re: Now Playing... Concrete Blonde - Mexican Moon - "When You Smile" A Dream Syndicate cover off the Blonde's tied-for-best album. I've never been able to see them live but they seem like the antithesis of a stadium-rock kind of band. But I always have this visualization of a darkened stage out of which float the eerie sounds and Johnette's vocals. Spotlights hit Mankey and Johnette after the first (pre-)chorus. Then, on the guitar riff after "smile" in the second chorus everything lights up. The crowd goes wild. Then, on the guitar riff after the "smile" in the third chorus, explosions and smoke and all hell breaks loose. The crowd goes wilder. And then - correcting the one serious flaw in the song - they pump up the fourth chorus, adding a second guitar solo section to the song where they turn into a thrash band and we all mosh. "And it seems like the end of the world." And then it can slow down and fade out. ![]() Problem is, I don't see how it would work live, because she's multi-tracked the hell out of her vocals. But it would make a cool pseudo-live video, anyway. |
