| Re: Now Playing... Good stuff. Finally found out about my job today: I'll actually have one for the next six months, which is a bit of a relief. After that... *shrugs* Fun Lovin' Criminals - We Have All The Time In The World |

| Flaming Poltergeist | Re: Now Playing... Blimey. Well, it's good that you know you've got it for that length of time. But the uncertainty is annoying. I go through the same with my mum; every few weeks, it seems, she tells me she's probably lost her job, then somehow hangs on for a bit longer. Doesn't half make me fret about it. | Re: Now Playing... Uncertainty is a real swine. I was chosen to do an IIP (Investors In People) interview at work a week or so back, and one of the things I ripped into the department about was the fact that we just don't get told what's happening until the last minute of the eleventh hour. Unfortunately, it's becoming much more prevalent - even in the Civil Service, which used to be known as a job for life. ![]() The Decemberists - The Soldiering Life |

| Re: Now Playing... Chance would be a fine thing, I'm sorry to say. I just hope enough people have complained during their interviews to ensure the department doesn't get its IIP status renewed. ![]() Radiohead - Black Star |

| Re: Now Playing... Ah, it's okay. Compared to some, I'm in a pretty decent position. I've been told that my old team will try to get me back once my six months is up: even if they can't, I doubt I'll lose my job completely - just get shifted around again. ![]() Moby - Where You End |

| Flaming Poltergeist | Re: Now Playing... Not too bad, thanks! Had a very interesting lecture today about Renaissance Tragedy and the Outsider, and liminality and communitas. It links to deconstruction, which I find interesting, even if some of it still makes a whistling noise as it goes over my head! Lotsa work to do, though. Hurricane -- Bob Dylan |

| Re: Now Playing... Ooh, total sense of deja vu. Not from my own studies, mind, but I remember my brother mentioning both liminality and communitas when he was doing his MA. Not sure I understood it then, either... ![]() ![]() Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Black Crow King |

| Re: Now Playing... Heh, well Matt did his MA at York (I think. It may have been Warwick, actually - he definitely did his PhD there.), so Exeter's doing just fine. I do remember that liminality had something to do with being on a threshold between two states (or something like that), and that communitas was to do with a strong feeling of community spirit, but that's about as far as I'd be willing to venture. And I'm probably wrong on both counts, anyway: I did a History degree, after all... ![]() The Raconteurs - Top Yourself |
