New Doctor? Someone I work with said she had seen rumors online that DT had had enough of playing the Doctor and was thinking of leaving, anyone heard this and know either way? If he is leaving who would you like to see as the Doctor and who do you think would make the worst Doctor? My first Doctor was Jon Pertwee so I suppose just as a tribute to my childhood I would like to see Sean Pertwee as the Doctor. A really terrible choice for Doctor would have to be say Graham Norton. And please please please never never a woman. ![]()

Re: New Doctor? I know there were rumours of his leaving, but then he confirmed that he was staying for at least the next series. And why not a woman? At the very least it would be interesting to see how The Doctor handles changing sex!

Re: New Doctor? I suppose it could be an evolutionary thing a time lord regenerates as a woman when there aren't enough for the race survives, however turning the Doctor into a woman just smakes as a PC ratings stunt.

Re: New Doctor? It strikes me that all the most fondly remembered Doctors (T Baker, Pertwee, Troughton and Hartnell) were mature characters with a natural eccentric streak to them. So I would like to see that again. It would slow things down and stop it feeling so rushed. If really pushed- I would think along the lines of Stephen Fry or Robbie Coltrane as having the inbuilt eccentricity, but without going to the extremes of age like say Robert Hardy.

Re: New Doctor? I seriously think that's the direction they should go in for the next Doc. Older, darker, with a more sardonic and cruel wit. More manipulative, less freindly and tolerant of human stupidity and far less prone to choose a chav for a companion. That kind of Doctor would eat the Master alive. Even the stubble would be great. I say give House a TARDIS.

Re: New Doctor? Being a women, I am sorry girls but I have to agree it just wouldnt sit well with me the Doctor being female. No one would accept it. Coolhand I think you are almost there, yes less make the Doctor less nice, far more intolerant and maybe just a hint of Daniel Craig in him, not to much though. Hugh Laurie No No he is to well known as House nobody would believe him as THE DOCTOR, someone in a Clive Owen style would be good, but less well known. Just off the cuff why not the guy who played Alex Bratener in Inspector Rex (dont know his real name and he would have to toughen up, drop the dog and learn English) but he looks good....

Re: New Doctor? I'd love to see Stephen Fry have a go at the role. I think he would do it if the scripts were good enough. We haven't had a really eccentric Doctor for a good while and it would be nice to see that side of his personality return.

Re: New Doctor? If they get the companion right, you could have nearly anyone as the Doctor. I'm not sure we need another eccentric DW, complete with jerky mannerisms and quirky habits. It might be time to settle him down a little. Throughout DW history, they've sort of made him progressively younger with each incarnation. Now, bearing in mind that, as far as I recall, his body can only take twelve regenerations and, if you include Paul McGann (his BBC 7 radio stuff is on a par and occasionally exceeds the TV stuff) that we're on number 11 (possibly 10) already, someone is going to have to think pretty quickly if the series is going to survive into the next century - and why not?? Here be my thoughts on the matter. Ahem ... The final incarnation can be young and male with all those nasty hormones soaping up the script, but after that he could start all over again as a woman, beginning with the grumpy Grandmother - an analogue to William Hartnell, complete with young and vigourous companions to do all the running around. In my imagination - now you have to be old enough to follow this - William Hartnell may have simply called himself grandfather and was being initiated by his earlier/later incarnation of himself (Susan) into the role of a Time Lord - hence her departure during the Earth Invasion by the Daleks. Maybe when they change sex, there's a certain amount of cross-over between incarnations. I could work it out better if I put my mind to it. And so would be established a loop that will allow, in twelve more regenerations' time, the next old geezer male Doctor - that should be around the year 2063, in real time, the 100 year anniversary of the series. Second point is that towards the end of Peter Davidson, the Master had used up all his regenerations. Now, we find he's been Derek Jacobi to the end of eternity, so what gives? Well, by my reckoning, the Master has already been around the loop at least twice in his personal time and ended up as we met him before his latest regeneration, which, because he'd been human for most of the time, skipped over ten regenerations leaving him as a (camp Batman & Robin style villain) young man again. And my final point is, Derek Jacobi for the next Doctor!
