| Fopp's demise For those of you in the UK, you might have heard of the demise of a particullarly good music/DVD/Book store, Fopp. Up here in Edinburgh there were two, both closed now. I do wonder if this is a sign of the times, the web taking over from real stores. Any thoughts. |

| resident pedantissimo | Re: Fopp's demise It most certainly is; partly electronic downloading, partly ordered by post; it's not entirely a bad thing, but the little independants are already a threatened species, and with them go the expertise and personal contact; if the chains follow them into oblivion it will be a sad day, despite the number of people in obscure regions who can, for the first time, have a decent choice of music, film and literature. |

| Re: Fopp's demise Hello all I've recently heard that HMV are taking over a few of Fopp's stores to keepthe name alive, one wonders will this be a good or a bad thing. Will they keep the pricing policys that Fopp had or will they just use it as an extension of theyre already bloated and over priced franchise. ![]() Lets hope not.. |

| Re: Fopp's demise HMV have taken over the chain and have reopened some shops one in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow and a couple down south, unfortunately my local store in Clydebank remains closed which is unfortunate as it is directly across from HMV which was handy as I could find what I was looking for in HMV then go across to Fopp to get it cheaper, I have had so many bargains in Fopp and have spent many an hour in their various stores I will miss it |
