Im looking for a book title, and the author

this is a book i read a couple years ago and i want to recommend it to a friend but i cant remember what its called. im also having trouble remembering what it was about.

this is as much as i can remember...there was a main character that was a cripple. he had tripped through some kind of energy field or something, and it made him crippled and his talking was really slow and hard to understand. at some point in the book he came back to his home ?planet? from a trip that took only a couple years, but something like 30 years had passed at home. also at some point he goes into a trance and when he comes out of it everything is as his mind remembers it used to be. so he comes out uncrippled and there is a girl named valentine who is old, but he remembers her as being young and she comes out young. there is also some evil guy who comes out of his dream.

another main plot to it is people who think they communicate with gods and they have to do all these weird contortions to speak to him, but they find out later it is just an obsessive compulsive disorder. i think they have chinese sounding names.

i hope thats enough info and someone will remember what this book is called.

That is one of the sequels to Ender's Game.

I can't remember which one but I think it was Xenocide? Actually, it seems to me the events you described happened over the course of several books in the series so I'll just list out the whole series.

Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind

They were written by Orson Scott Card.
