The Next Revamped Doctor Who Enemy

It was just a passing thought in a previous thread, but i thought a new one would make more sense.

There seems to be a pattern emerging with the new series. A major classic villain from the original Dr Who show have been revamped and brought back in each season. We've had the Daleks in Series one, the Cybermen in Series two, and of course, The Master in Series Three.

So, who do you think will be (or should be) the next revamped Dr Who Villian? and should they have a modern make over (like the cybermen) or stay the same (like the dalkeks)?

The Dominators? The Black Guardian? How about the Zarbi?

Re: The Next Revamped Doctor Who Enemy

It has to be a person or race that is numerous or technologically powerful, to present a sufficient threat to justify three or four full episodes, with links to perhaps two or three others. They've also got to be believable to a 21st century audience (so the Martians may have had their day) and probably not too closely resemble any of the species we've already seen (e.g. are the Sontarans too close to the Judoon?).

I'd also hope that, since we've already had (original) Torchwood, it won't be some organisation on Earth.

Although I doubt they'd do it, the change would be nice if the threat wasn't to Earth next season. It does make empathy with the Doctor's task more difficult, unless he is personally at risk, or perhaps the TARDIS is, but someone else blowing up Earth is getting boring. A great big time rift that's going to suck half the universe in?

PS. Please, RTD, keep the episode names ambiguous - we're getting too many clues from titles like "Dalek" and "Last of the Time Lords"...

My bet would be on The Valeyard or The Rani. And I expect we'll be seeing more of Dalek Caan.

The sea devils were good. Wouldn't mind seeing them back.

I hope not, give them a rest for a bit. i think the Dalek episodes in the last series were a little, weak. i still think Dalek Caan is the Dalek from the 1st season epise of the same name.

Daleks have had more of an impact when they aren't as expected. My favourite bit was when the Cult of skaro appeard at the end of 'Army of Ghosts', as i (persoanlly) wasn't expecting it.

Sea devils, indeed. May have had something to do with the Titanic..

Agreed - the Dalek in chains in Dalek (Ninth Doctor, Series 1) was genuinely scary, and a shock - but you can have too much of a good thing, and I think that RTG is in danger of overdoing it.
Tell you what I'd like to see, though - Dalek Caan turn up in Torchwood - see how Captain Jack's merry mob of misfits deals with that!

It would be nice to see the return of the Nestine, if they hadn't been so casually beaten by Eccleston in about 5 min. Or maybe the Yeti could make a comeback.

Now that would actually make me start watching Torchwood!

Yeah, how exactly does one shag a Dalek?

I would LOVE to see the Valeyard brought back. The whole idea of one of the Doctor's future regenations being evil is fantastic beyond words. Thing is, I'm pretty sure RTD would stuff the Valeyard up horribly (I HATED the new Master) so I hope the BBC waits until he's gone to try this character out again.

You could even make it the subject of a whole season- the Doctor battling the personification of his own darkness.

I couldn't agree more. And I think one of the ideas being bandied around was that the Valeyard might put in an appearance during the Doctor's 12th and (supposedly) last regeneration. That ought to give us at least 2-3 more seasons. Plenty of time for RTD to step aside.

In fact, you could have the 11th Doctor being dark and godlike and then eventually BECOMING the ValeYard at the end of his tenure. The 12th Doctor could actually BE the Valeyard, could be the new big bad guy. The story arc of a whole season could be about his companions having to stop him and trigger the next regeneration to bring the Doctor back for his final life, which he would spend trying to repair the damage he did to the universe as the Valeyard before it's too late.

As long as you had decent, interesting companions to root for during the "evil doctor" phase, I reckon that would ROCK!

Re: The Next Revamped Doctor Who Enemy

I think the next Dr Who villian should be a camp welshman who toys with the dreams of those around him by writing dodgy scripts. A bit like that psychic paper that the Dr has - only more evil.

He would live in Cardiff and inflict misery on those who watch the show he currently writes for. It would have to be some sort of SF-ish show. So that he can easily hide his secret psychic attack (which he uses to feed on the enjoyment he sucks from the fans) as a set of risible scripts.

But honestly, who is going to believe that?
