Re: 29.13: Last of the Time Lords

Just a note as I remmber the average for a life span (at least pre time lord) for a Gallifrain was about 300 years. I suspect that maybe he took him to the extreme edge of his regeneration threshhold.

Hmmmm, I need to get my anorak on again dont I.....

Fantastic news. Brilliant choice IMHO.

Re: 29.13: Last of the Time Lords

What a rubbish ending to the series that was. We have a great actor playing the Master (John Simm as I suspected! Yay!) and what does RTD do? He turns him into a panto villain*, the doctor into Dobbie the house Elf, throws in a the old "1 year later" line of text substitute for plot development and even has The Master perform a cheesy song and dance routine**...

In fact I expected Dobbie ... sorry the Dr to reappear in a widow Twankie costume and everyone to start shouting "he's behind you" (even if he wasn't).

I did boo though.

Frankly, I'd almost be pleased if the rumours of the show's demise turned out to be true.

* Why did we get panto Simm? We should have had sinister Simm. Crazy wackey isn't ... well crazy,. A brroding sinister Simm would have chimed with the previous episodes (see Jacobis take on the Master) and also the tone of the preceding episodes from Blink and the two parter featuring the Family of Blood.
** If I wanted to watch Eurovision I would watch Eurovision.

I can't believe you just said that, even in jest. Bring back Peri, yes. Bring back Tegan, of course. Heck, even bring back Ace. But Bonnie Langford? *shudders*

But I agree, Tate will likely be a disaster.

Re: 29.13: Last of the Time Lords

I will stop watching if Catherine Tate comes back - or Bonnie Langford, for that matter. I missed the series finale (hope my brother taped it), but thought Derek Jacobi was excellent in the first part. Hell, why do I even mention it, of course he was excellent. One of the things I loved about the performance was how like the Doctor he was; ergo, how similar the Doctor and the Master truly are. I'd love to see Jacobi as the Doctor one day, but I suppose it can't happen now.

As someone so old I remember (fairly clearly) William Hartnell, the idea of the Doctor being a heartthrob is a little bit off-key. Does the Doctor need a love interest? Couldn't a companion (as in the original olden days) be the heroic type that all the girls swoon over while the Doctor acts like an alien again?

Big cast, extra wages that could be spent on naff CGI. Ho hum. Suppose I'll just have to get used to a Doctor Who that's more like Young Doctors.

Re: 29.13: Last of the Time Lords

i actuall ysaid that to a friend of mine just now. that im not sure if david's lovely ness is enough to out weigh catherine tate's annoyingness AND russel t davies rather crappy scripts. i may watch whenever im sure he hasn't written it, and when martha comes back, but i really don't like catherine tate. she's not funny, she's not particularly a good actress and she was VERY annoying at xmas.

BOOO

The voice does grate a bit - hopefully he'll write action scripts not dialogue ones, for her

Lets hope Donna DOESN'T get any dialogue. And that RTD gets his hands off Doctor Who before he strips the last good out of it.

Re: 29.13: Last of the Time Lords

Haven't seen the finale yet, and haven't read/heard anything which makes me want to, either. Last year, the whole 'Rose is dead' thing, THEN I was watching! (Only to make sure they nailed down the coffin lid!)

I, too, will stop watching if Ms Tate is indeed the new assistant. Because, yes, I AM BOVVERED! She was brash and crass and annoying in the Christmas special, and the stoyrylines are already a turn-off.

Rant, mumble, moan...
