I Need Help With a Book Title ... - Science Fiction Fantasy Chronicles: forums

Okay ... a couple of years ago I was surfing the web and found an online copy of a book about hackers ... it had elements of magic to it. It's apparently an older book that is out of print. I've tried to google it and can't find anything that matches. I don't even recall the author's name. It was published at one point so I'm hoping that someone can help.

I'm guessing it might be something by Rick Cook.

The "Wiz" series? There are a couple of these on the Baen Free Library website if you want to check.

The novella "True Names" by Vernor Vinge? It's about a group of elite hackers whose computer programs and operations are manifest in virtual reality as magical spells and creatures. The characters all have magician personas. I wouldn't be surprised if it was available online somewhere. It's been in print in various incarnations.
