X-Files in Retrospect

It has been some years since the X-Files has wrapped up its run on FOX here in the United States, and the whole series is now on DVD split up between the seasons. Also, the show is still getting played through syndication.

Looking back at the series as a whole, how do you view X-Files now?

For instance, after being more familiar with the entire run (rather than catching random episodes here and there, which left me utterly confused at times), I think the best written season was season six. Take for example the "Dreamland" episode, which depicts Mulder being sent into the past and onto the British luxury liner taken over by Nazis at the beginning of World War II via the effects of the Bermuda Triangle. Never mind that the episode was great science fiction, but the directing of the episode is marvelous. Never have I seen so many continuous camera shots attempted in a television event.

Re: X-Files in Retrospect

The episode you're describing is called Triangle, Dreamland was the episode that aired just after it. You're right though it's a great X File.
