Re: Salem's Lot

Conn I'm always glad to welcome another Stephen King fan into the fold.

Salem's Lot scared the daylights out of me when I read it, oh what... 30 years ago? I've since reread it at least half a dozen times, and always get goosebumps.

The Stand is my favorite King novel. After that, if you want really creepy, try Thinner written under the Bachman. I only read it once, but still get the creeps when I recall it.

Re: Salem's Lot

I personally thought Thinner was a very blah novel, not standing up to the name that also wrote Rage, The Long Hike etc.

well, as I said, I only read it once. It probably suffers in comparison, yet the details of the story stick in my memory for some reason. Considering the number of books I've read (Stephen King included) since that I remember no details from...

Re: Salem's Lot

I really enjoyed the book, my favourite character is Mark too. As a kid I think he was really, really brave. Using the cross against the vampires and resisted them when they were calling to him, most importantly like Connavar mentioned, he took the gun and went after the vampires. He had more determination than most adults around, which really impressed me.

Re: Salem's Lot

This is my favourite of all Stephen King's books. I try to read it every few years. This time I downloaded it to my MP4 player and have been listening to it for the last few weeks. It's the first audiobook that I've listened to, and it's rather marvelous. You (obviously) have to listen to every word, rather than skip past paragraphs and skim over lines. It concentrates the mind and makes you realise how much you've missed the other times you read it.

Mark's night time visitation, and the death of Susan are even more terrifying when you're listening to them as well!

Yeah Mark was an impressing kid. Much more interesting than the main character.

If Mark was the adult hero, i would feel sorry for the vamps

The Long "Walk"?

But yeah, Thinner wasn't as good. Not to say it was bad by any means, but not at that same level.

Salem's, however, was far above those.
