Re: The chronicles word counter!

My writing isn't going as smoothly as I'd like, while typing on the laptop, so I'm going back to the old handwriting stand-by. So I won't be updating as regularly (probably not until I copy up the sections that I write and gods' know when I'll do that!) My current word count is: 63,468

Re: The chronicles word counter!

Gods, I could never handwrite, my hand cramps up after only a few minutes. Though I get bogged down with the immediate changeability of Word. I used to have a typewriter, which was good. Might have to fetch it from my folk's place.

I've failed my target, having added a grand total of about fifty words to my WiP in the past two or three days. Grrr...

Re: The chronicles word counter!

It's strange how much more easy the words flow when I write by hand...when I was typing on the laptop, I'd sit, struggling to type 500 words all night...last night I wrote 500 words in about half an hour, and, if I may be so bold, it was better prose than what I write on Word. I don't know why it's like that, but if it works I guess I'll stick with it!

Re: The chronicles word counter!

That's great hoopy. I used to write alot by hand until someone invented the word processor and I actually bought one. I miss all those balls of paper that used to mount up in the corner. LOL.
New word count zero. Edit count alot. Caught up with an article I have to get out for a mag. 3000 words Done! Edited two pieces for members of my writer's critique group. Took about 5 hours and up till 2.30 am this morning *ouch*

On the other hand, the excerpts file for ideas and ready blocks now stands with 10 stories and 19909 words

Re: The chronicles word counter!

Alright, since I want to make progress with my stories - after a too long hiatus - I'll give the numbers for my two main works. For now, this is mostly for me to get back into the swing of things. Later on, I might ask to be nagged...

Story: Sternenlicht - Hoffnung in der Finsternis (Starlight - Hope in Darkness)
Genre: Fantasy
Count: 4.426 words (pitiful... *cries*)
Progress: Chapter 1 finished, chapter 2 started

Story: Amazonen - Sie kamen über die Berge (Amazons - They came from beyond the mountains)
Genre: Fantasy
Count: 6.914
Progress: Chapter 1 is in revision, chapter 2 started but on hold until revisions on chapter 1 are finished.

Besides that... there's lots of random and not so random ideas. But nothing warranting mentioning here since it's all on hold to focus on the progress on the two here mentioned.

Re: The chronicles word counter!

Not good at writing out and out flaming rows, especially if one side is trying to be controlled. The words aren't always so difficult, but trying to get over why one or other or both parties are so narked in the first place can be. So 2000 words(ish) actually hides rather more tried, tested and failed ones

Story: The Academy
Genre: Science Fiction
Count: 64979
Status: Growing

On the other hand, the excerpts file for ideas and ready blocks now stands with 11 stories and 20398 words

Re: The chronicles word counter!

Well, I've really only got two novels in the work at the moment.

(First, my pride and glory)
Title: Sinspell
Genre: Fantasy (Though at the moment, it's dark Fantasy)
Wordcount: 73713
Status: In progress, though coming very close to the end (about 5 or 6 chapters to go).

Title: The Crippled Umbra: Book 1 (still untitled
Genre: Fantasy
Wordcount: zip
Status: It's still in the planning stages, but I've got a general plot, characters and I know it's going to be a trilogy.

Don't expect the second one to start growing until I've completed Sinspell. I'm just enjoying it too much.

Re: The chronicles word counter!

About 2000 words on what I thought was going to be a short story. Still might be. I was watching As Good As It Gets (again), this time from the beginning for the first time, and I got one of those "but, what if ..." moments. That's usually as far as such things go, a mental exercise I can play for a few days while trying to sleep, soon to be forgotten as the plot becomes more stupid.

This time, though, I had a free week at work and was approaching Monday morning with resignation when I thought I should keep myself occupied some way - Why not actually write this one?

So it began.

It's sort of a detective story, no sci-fi, no fantasy as such so far, but a fair amount of delving into the minds of the protags. Trying to keep lessons I've learned here to the fore - don't confuse POVs, make sure you need the adjectives and adverbs (I can't bring myself to cull them completely), seek out and destroy the Passive Voice (where necessary).

Net result is a story that doesn't look like it came from a "what if" moment while watching As Good As It Gets ...

Hope to post something here soon. Might be up to 5000 or 8000 by the time I've finished. Hope you'll be interested when I'm done (as I say, it's not exactly skiffy or fantasy)...
