Yeah, thats what I was thinking too, he is from the right part! I am also in love with him!!! ![]() Mara is a little harder though... She would need more of a northern accent, am I right? I can act!!! But I have an american twang when I talk now, haha. And I'm from Fife anyways. Hmmm...auditions would be the perfect way to find THE perfect Mara, and to see who worked best with THE perfect Fox. (I'm routing for Sean Biggerstaff)

Couldn't work out from your posts if you were male or female, wooleywrld, (which is why I didn't ask if you could do Mara). I know now! I bet you could relearn a Scots twang, though Mara wouldn't have to be strictly Scottish, just speak in a way that suited the 'northern-ness' of her island. (ie. not a 'Hollywood' accent). The people of the Orkney and Shetland islands have very pure, beautiful accents. I was thinking of those islands when I wrote Exodus. I hope it was clear in my earlier post that I don't for a second think that American readers are not interested in challenging books - it was US publishers who seemed to be insulting you by implying that! Thanks for your comments about the US cover - I agree. Not what I expected but very topical.

Re: Exodus I took no offense to it at all, although I do not yet consider myself "American". I will always be Scottish at heart! I do love the accents from the North though. While reading the books, I try to hear the lilting accent in my head...Quite honestly, I would be willing to fake any accent if it was for Sean Biggerstaff, haha! I can't wait for the books to come out over here. Do you know the release date yet? I know what all my friends will be getting for their birthdays next year anyway!

Re: Exodus Sean Connery for Grandfather of All! or Tain? Are we sure the New Worlders would have Scottish accents? If I could act (ha!) I think I'd want the role as Tony Rex, just for the kick of playing a mole and getting killed. Anyone seen the cinema trailers for "The Golden Compass" that vile renaming for the American market of the book most of us will know as Northern Lights. Not sure whether its going to be any good or not, but i'll no doubt go and see it. Full of famous names, of course. Also, sitting in Heathrow airport for 3 hours waiting for a flight to Seattle and reading Zenith, then half way through the flight, look out of the window and see... ![]() Greenland. It is such an amazing place. I was just utterly taken aback.

I think that if there are going to be films made from the trilogy, then auditions should be open to the public, and parts could be given to actors/ actresses who would happily promote global awareness, or study that area, or work for an enviromental company.... Anyway, maybe the Mara auditions should take place in the Orkney/ Shetland area so that you can find the ultimate Mara who can do the accent. cheerio then, 73 ![]()

Re: Exodus You are totally right 73, that's the best way! A triple threat is needed; fantastic actors/actresses, globally aware, and the right accent! (However, I am still routing for Sean Biggerstaff.) I shall await the releases of the books then! Thanks!

Re: Exodus Hmm, my last message (posted well over a week ago now) seems to have vanished into the ether. Forgotten what I said now, other than saying Sean Connery for Tain, but then thats obvious given my knowledge of famous scotsmen seems to consist of him, billy connely and that jolly man who apparently runs the nation. Oh and i wondered if the new worlders would have scottish accent or not, does exodus mention that? In most culture media seems to be dulling accents so cut off Mara might have a really broad accent where as Fox would be much more neutral.I'd love to be costume designer for that, all the patched up clothing and the treenesters outfits (i forget what they're made of).

I believe it is odds and ends from plastic litter that they find down in the netherworld. Except from Candleriggs whose clothing is woven from moss and leaves and grass. You're right, the costumes would be pretty cool. I can't picture in my head what the new world clothing would be like, I can only picture normal clothing. But who can imagine styles that far in the future...hmmm... I also see what you mean about the accents, it's true the new world may have a completely different accent than that area of Glasgow actually has now. And as for good actors with beautiful northern accents, there is a movie coming out set in the north of Scotland. And there is an old man that totally reminds me of Tain (although Sean Connery would be way awesome!) I love the fact that we are all planning the details for this movie on here so if and when it does happen, we shall be ready!

To be honest I wouldn't be suprised if the new worlders had american accents. Or maybe because computer "voices" usually sound english, they might talk like that. Maybe a minority of people talk in a scottish accent because they have picked it up from Caledon or the other GrandFathers. I dunno, they might all speak yiddish but I think that if they did, Julie would've mentioned it- its a bit drastic anyway. As for the costumes- do you remember those old aol adverts where that woman's dress was all computery techoey sort of thingy.....never mind, maybe the new worlders could wear that- or not...ok. And I was wondering, in Aurora would fox and pandora be wearing really weird ramdom articles of clothing from the museum- Because that would be quite cool. i hope this was of some use to someone or maybe just helped to fill the thread a bit. A good way to do that would be to createan army of apostraphes!''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

You know what's weird though? In the U.S. those computer "voices" have an american accent! It took a while to get used to. But i think that maybe all the new-worlders would still have Scottish accents but they would be milder and maybe more neutral than all the different strong accents there are today. That AOL lady's dress was pretty awesome, except that would take so much work to have everyone in clothes like that! And that is a good point, what would Fox and Pandora be wearing? Maybe some of the urchins left some items in the University museum...

| Re: Exodus Quote:
What do the urchins wear normally. All I can think as futuristic clothing is like the sort of thing they wore in [possibly] 70's music videos or Noos clothing, i.e. holograms, but they didn't. When mara dresses up as the Sea Policewoman it says she wears normal clothing underneath and there's that whole bit about the trainers being too small. I don't think that the Scottish would loose there identity enough to pick up the American accent even if they did turn their back on the outside world. I'd be ashamed if the English did. | |

I hope this stuff is made clear in Aurora. Wouldn't the urchins wear all kinds of weird things...or maybe they don't actually wear clothes- they don't really need to anyway. Maybe they are all just caked in dirt like Pandora. Have you heard about plans of "digital books"? Is someone acting out Exodus for real whilst we are just dreaming of a movie? Worrying, huh.

Re: Exodus I think they are all naked at first. But then when they get to Greenland they are cold and they wear the clothes that they stole from the museum. Namorvia, you're post emerged from the ether. That picture of Greenland is fantastic! It looks amazing!
