Re: Karen Miller OK, I'm not really good at reviewing stuff & I often find it hard to pinpoint exactly what it is i like about stuff, but I'll give it a go... I was honestly hooked from the first chapter, I finished both books in less than 2 weeks & it usually takes me just over 2 weeks per book. Its a fairly fast paced story, it doesnt feel like there are any "filler" bits so personally i wouldnt think of it as epic fantasy, I was a bit worried that it may feel unfinished coz I'm used to reading trilogies, but the story was told really well & it didnt feel like it was lacking a third book. The end of the first book nearly knocked me off my chair it was so unexpected & such a cliff hanger - i highly recommend that you make sure you have book 2 handy by the time you finish book 1... The characters are likeable & understandable, as in your not left wondering what their motivations are... Hope that gives you guys a bit more of an idea...

Hi Seanie! I've just registered and can't find the introductions forum, so if I'm not being rude I'll say my welcomes here. I think you did Karen credit by your descriptions Seanie. Well done! ![]() For those of you who haven't read any of Karen Miller's work, I think you'll be more than mildly surprised. She's a refreshing writer that writes from the hip, and carries across excellent imagery to the reader. In the first of her duology, The Innocent Mage she has cast a solid mix of characters that are vivid and well animated. They drive the plot, which is simple yet delicate (unlike my own which always seem to be intrigue bound and delivered) and impacts nicely with subtle side plots. I can't say enough about this author without sounding like a preview, which is not my intent. My son put her book in my bookshelf a year ago and I've only just picked it up and read it. Better late than never. And I'm so glad I did read it. I'm sure if you can secure one of her books, you will have a really good and enjoyable time. Happy reading.

Re: Karen Miller She's an Australian fantasy author with three original books and a Stargate tie-in novel to her credit. She's only just been published in the UK for the first time, and is one of the launch line authors for Orbit USA, who will put out her first two books in September and October. I've heard mixed reviews and very little about her in the blogosphere. If more reliable, positive reviews come in I may give her a shot.

Ihave just finished book 1. I really liked it. Please do not say that i will have to wait long till next book... . EDIT: on her website it is said that book 2 is called "Innocence Lost" while on the cover of my copy says that, I quote: The Kingmaker, Kingbreaker series conclude with The Awakened Mage". Why is that? | |

Re: Karen Miller I've just finished her first book and enjoyed it. It's definitely a page turner and I ended up still reading at 1am.... not a good plan when you have a school run to do at 8am lol. Anyway, I'd say to anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre to give her books a read. (I loved Gar - one of her main characters.)
