Should you reference manga as a genre?

I've finally edited my novel to a point where I think it's almost ready to send out to potential publishers and/or agents. From what I've read it seems it's important to draw attention to potential audiences. My novel draws a lot from manga, and I think would appeal to manga fans. Should I draw attention to this? I know several publishers such as Harpercollins and Gollancz have ventured into manga publishing. Or would it be seen as negetive and perhaps associate my novel with a younger audience than I intended?
I'm aiming for late teen and up, but from what I can see both these publishers seem to aim for the lower age groups.

Re: Should you reference manga as a genre?

You need to make the points you make here, in your covering letter. Most publishers and agents who work in the genre are aware of the breadth of the manga market, so quote examples that work for your target audience, and do say that your novel is not for younger children. That should do it!

Good luck!
