Thanks a lot, Oxfam.

A bachelor sees bras in only two situations, opening the wrong door (followed by profuse apologies, a swift exit and praying hard she'll see the incident for the honest mistake it was) or....... well, I don't have to draw you a picture.

Thanks to, 'The Great Bra Hunt,' my cosy little bookshop, virtually a second home, now has frilly undergarments from bum to breakfast time - I've seen more bras in the past week than in my entire adult life.

I appreciate their noble sentiments, and these things are hardly the spawn of the devil - being very useful to half the population - BUT DON'T THEY REALISE THERE ARE SOME THINGS A MAN SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO ?

Am experiencing my first 'Sleepover' with one of my 6 yr old son's friends. This friend is what I'd term 'energetic, excitable, and with an ambivalent attitude to general good behaviour and manners'. He's lovely really, but often errs on the cheekier side of caution, and seems to want to push all boundaries at all times.

I'm already exhausted! We're about to send them to bed, and yet I don't reckon they'll be asleep for another hour or two. ho hum . . . .

On the plus side, this friend is a BIG Star Wars fan, and has bought over the DVD, (A New Hope), and the Lego Star Wars Wii game for tomorrow, so as a family, we've sat down with popcorn and watched the film which was fun. Towards the end my daughter, who's done both football and swimming today, sleepily demanded that the film be paused so that she could watch it when she woke up. Bless!

Re: Shout Your Frustrations to the World! (You know you want to.(READ FIRST POST))

urghhh, schools. They know my kid has a range of learning problems, and a particular problem with processing information, concentration and retention. They know I have another child I can't drop to school until 8.50 as the school has no playground supervision and she's 7.
She's(the child with learning problems) been in trouble for being a couple of minutes late yesterday - I left at 5.30 am and my hubby, who had to get a taxi etc, left a few minutes late and couldn't get out of our street, which is really narrow and had a special school bus picking up kids opposite, so she's stressed about that, and now she's getting hammered for forgetting rules given at the start of last term, and stuff taught last year.
Our education board is threatening to close 50% of secondary schools next year, yet she has a ft classroom assistant - that's not given for nothing....
A stern letter away to the head of year, and an interesting meeting on Monday am for the review of statement, thank goodness hubby is off and with me, at least if I get all upset and ridiculous he can hold the fort. (I have a distressing habit of crying at these, but it's all so blinking emotional when it's your own kids, but I'm a blinder at letters of complaint and filling in their never ending forms.)

Feeling better for the rant already.

Re: Shout Your Frustrations to the World! (You know you want to.(READ FIRST POST))

The whole family has been on shocked tenterhooks for three days. It's now all but certain that the "Mean Ole Lady" is dead.

The Mean Ole Lady has been a fixture in the neighborhood for more than 15 years. She takes her morning walk, like clockwork. No matter the weather; she was always in the same place at the same time. All the years of driving the kids to school.... we always saw the Mean Ole Lady.

The Mean Ole Lady did not suffer automobiles gladly. She glared at us when we were in a car, she carried a massive black cudgel, and she never responded to a wave. And everybody waves in these parts, Pardner. "It's better to wave at a stranger than to not wave to a friend."

But the times we encountered her on foot, she was very pleasant and kind in a "Why, yes, it is a lovely morning and I am enjoying my walk, thank you..." sort of way. So we use the nick-name "Mean Ole Lady" with fondness and respect. We never knew her real name.

Monday, rumors flowed in of a grisley accident. A school bus struck and killed an elderly pedestrian at a very familiar time and place.

Details trickled in, day by day, via the evening local tv news and the daily newspapers. Was it her? A name that we don't recognize. The chilling confirmation came today when a witness/family member was quoted as saying that the victim was carrying her favorite "'Yellowstone National Park' Walking Stick." and my daughter, driving herself to school at just the right time, this morning... significantly did not see the Mean Ole Lady.

We won't know for certain until the obituary appears with a recognizable photo; but we're all rather shaken by the probable death of the sweet "Mean Ole Lady" who we never really knew.

And the bus driver has been a fixture as well. The paper says she's been driving for thirty years. A long time familiar figure at the helm of local schoolbuses, as we passed on the street. I didn't know the driver on a personal level; but I rode her bus many a time, in company with my daughters' class field trips. A kind and competent person thrust suddenly into a living, personal nightmare.

Not today, loads of rain. However with a big enough hose I could get around my hosepipe ban, any offers?

Hugs for all

I hate it when what you know and what you feel are in violent disagreement, and you know that what you know is right, but what you feel is bigger and stronger and wants to destroy things, lots of things, even though it would do no good whatsoever.

(Thinking about it, this might have something to do with the fact that the local coffee shop ran out of decaff this morning.)

if there is a noise ordinance where you live you might be able to get local authorities to sound them out and let them know they have exceeded the legal limit on decibels.
or explore your area for a quiet park and hope the weather holds.

Will it ever. Stop. RAINING? We had such a lovely dry winter, now it's hailstones and freak storms all day. Not looking forward to waiting for the bus in this weather later.

If all dark clouds have silver linings, why don't they fall out of the sky?

You can't have rainbows without rain.

Or something.....

Grrrrr. Had a burglary this weekend. Kids came home and found house trashed, animals traumatized, electronics all gone, and back door destroyed. As if that wasn't stressful enough, I've just gotten ahold of the woman who is to be processing my pre-approval on a home loan, so I can get out of this house, and she claims to have never received my documents. Right. Just when things finally seem to be going my way, things always seems to happen. Is my karma that awful?

(Interesting note concerning the burglary: cops went all CSI and actually lifted fingerprints, shoe print, and DNA. I really assumed they only did that in movies and tv.)
