The problem is that we aren't anywhere near the coast here. It takes three hours to get to the coast from here, and nearly another hour to drive down to Pismo after arriving at the coast. So, I don't get to go over there very often, and then no one I'm ever with wants to fish, so I don't get to do it. I used to go fishing with my father all the time, though. Never got to go deep sea fishing, but we used to go to Ventura or Oxnard and fish off the pier, or at the Marina in Ventura. Then, after we moved to L.A. County, we'd fish off the pier or the barge at Seal Beach. It was cool when we'd go to Seal Beach at night. Hardly anyone ever fished at night; sometimes it would be just us on the pier and the surfers down below...and, no, we never hooked a surfer. Also, it was a clear view across to Long Beach and all the lights at the Queen Mary. Beautiful. Okay, now there's something for me to rant about...I really miss Southern California, and I've been feeling especially homesick for it lately. I'm trying to find a time when I can take a trip down there for a few days. I thought about going over this weekend, but I don't like traveling on holidays. Also, my mother hasn't been well lately and although her doctor said its fine for her to travel if she feels up to it, it takes extra planning and effort to travel so that she is comfortable. But it would be good for her to get out of town for awhile. So, I don't know...I'm trying to work something out. | |

| Re: Shout Your Frustrations to the World! (You know you want to.(READ FIRST POST)) Wow sounds idyllic LMA. Earlier this year I went on a very good holiday with five of my best mates up to a place called Shoal Bay, which is a quiet place about two hours north of Sydney. We stayed in a flat that had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a beautiful view of the beach that was about 150 metres or so from where the flat was. It was the perfect place to stay, and we went when it wasn't school holidays (none of us work full-time, all except one are uni students). There were lots of great awesome things we did that I could go on about for a while, but the reason I mention the whole thing is because you talked about fishing, and one day on this holiday we decided to. We walked around the rocky headland on one side of the bay and attempted fishing off the beach - we weren't really well equipped for that. So then we walked down the length of the beach (pretty long) to close to the other headland, where there was a jetty and we fished off that. We fished for hours in the baking sun and it was great fun. Strangely enough only one person caught anything, and he caught five fish, and they were all the same type! We saw heaps of little fish though, and mud crabs, and even a stingray. Most of us got sunburnt. All in all, fishing is great. |

Catching fish is not the main object, as far as I'm concerned. Of course, it's nice when you do, especially if you like to eat fish, or if you have another use for them. For example, my father grew roses. And when we fished off of Seal Beach, we most often caught rock cod, which my father did not consider to be a good "eating fish". However, they made great fertilizer. Most of the rock cod we caught therefore ended up buried in the garden under the rose bushes. And those were the most beautiful roses I've ever seen. Extra added attraction: we didn't have to clean those fish. I've always hated cleaning fish. |

| Re: Shout Your Frustrations to the World! (You know you want to.(READ FIRST POST)) Breaking away from the important topic of fishing I'm wondering what experience some of you might have had with cruise lines. I have cruised twice and found both cruise to be quite pleasant - the first more than the second. However, there was one hitch with the second and that involved the exchange rate. I was sailing with Princess Cruises and paying by credit card for final reckoning. When I received the bill I found that Princess had converted the charges in American dollars at a rate most favourable to the cruise line. I am not sure if this sort of fraud is common cruise line practice, but it took me two months to get Princess Cruises to give me a refund. It was just $140 Canadain, but it was the principle of the thing. |

At least over here we don't have to pay to get checked over or go into hospital unless you're private because we have this thing called the National Health Service so most things are payed for by them. That's good news for me since I'm so accident prone like today I nearly broke my arm being stupid in the living room... anyhoo, here's a fustration...IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE MY FRIGGIN HOLIDAY WEEKEND BUT I'VE GOT A TON OF REVISION TO DO AND I HAVE TO COME INTO SCHOOL IN THE TWO WEEK HOLIDAY!!! GRRRRRRRRR |

When I got up I was told my ill uncle only had a couple of days left to live at most. He passed away a few hours ago. My aunt is distraught - and it's her birthday in a couple of days. ![]() Life is so fragile. But I was asked to compile the funeral music, so I've made a CD of some lovely songs. It's the least I can do, since I knew my uncle well. I still can't believe he's gone, though. It was so sudden - yet not. |
