That's it, Marky - and in the very next paragraph of that letter, he also suggests The Shadow Grows.

Círdan.

Quote:
Gil-galad before he died gave his ring to Elrond; Círdan later surrendered his to Mithrandir......
'Take this ring, Master,' he said, ...'For this is the Ring of Fire, and with it you may rekindle hearts in a world that grows chill.'

Close enough, Marky....more of a "clong" than a "ding", though...

Re: The Tolkien Quoting Trivia

Don't have the book on-hand to quote page numbers, but isn't it the 4th Age (the "Age of Men") from The Return of the King?

(Pyan dragging Gollum-speech in here can't be promising....)

Re: The Tolkien Quoting Trivia

That is an interpretation of the answer, Grimward, but somewhere in the permitted books for this thread (see first post), there is a specific quote that is the answer that I'm looking for.
The "inner clue", if you like, is in the phrase according to JRRT - which gives a pointer to which book the answer is in.....

(How's that for a polite u-uhh noise...!)
