Re: The Tolkien Quoting Trivia

Clue, Marky:
So far, so good, but the other answer is much more obscurely placed, though the Arwen answer is repeated beside it.

Re: The Tolkien Quoting Trivia

The second part of the answer must be (I think):

Quote:
Arwen is not a 're-incarnation' of Luthien (that in the view of this mythical history would be impossible, since Luthien has died like a mortal and left the world of time) but a descendant very like her in looks, character, and fate. When she weds Aragorn (whose love-story elsewhere recounted is not here central and only occasioanlly refereed to) she 'makes the choice of Luthien', so the grief at her parting from Elrond is specially poignant. Elrond passes Over Sea. The end of his sons, Elladan and Elrohir, is not told: they delay their choice, and remain for a while.
As for 'whose authority decides these things?' The immediate 'authorities' are the Valar (the Powers or Authorities): the 'gods'.
Let. 153 To Peter Hastings (draft)

Re: The Tolkien Quoting Trivia

Afraid not, Marky: in the bit I'm looking for, JRRT says " No doubt it was X who was the authority....."

You're in the correct book, though!

Re: The Tolkien Quoting Trivia

Oh, Marky...are you in a hurry?

The Ents will come looking for the Entwives...

Quote:
When trees shall fall and starless night devour the sunless day:
When wind is in the deadly East, then in the bitter rain
I'll look for thee, and call to thee; I'll come to thee again!

What was JRRT's original suggestion for the title of what became The Fellowship of the Ring?
