Re: The Tolkien Quoting Trivia

Quote:
For this ring was like to twin serpents, whose eyes were emeralds, and their heads met beneath a crown of golden flowers, that the one upheld and the other devoured; that was the badge of Finarfin and his house.
The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, Ch XIX Of Beren and Luthien

It is mentioned here because Beren son of Barahir who got the ring from Felagund, shows the ring to King Thingol when he has earned death after he tells he wants the king's daugter Luthien.

Re: The Tolkien Quoting Trivia

It is said that this name was given to him at his birth by Malbeth the Seer, who said to his father 'Arvedui you shall call him, for he will be the last in Arthedain'

There's your revenge, then, KMQ. I was still fumbling about in my appendices; for some reason I couldn't find the reference to Malbeth.

At the Battle of Sudden Flame:

Quote:
Before the walls of Eithel Sirion fell Hador the Golden-haired, defending the rearguard of his lord Fingolfin, being then sixty and six years of age, and with him fell Gundor his younger son, pierced by many arrows; and they were mourned by the Elves.
The Silmarillion, Of The Ruin of Beleriand p. 152

[T]hen many of the Teleri pressed on to the shores of Beleriand[.] [...] Long they remained by the coasts of the western sea, and Osse and Uinen came to them and befriended them; and Osse instructed them, sitting upon a rock near to the margin of the land, and of him they learned all manner of sea-lore and sea music.

All hobbits, of course, can cook, for they begin to learn the art before they learn their letters (which many never reach):
