Re: The Discworld Diaries

I fear I'm not the originator of the term, merely the importer and local distributor.
I went to L-space (the generally reliable source of all wisdom on the discworld) to search the etymological origins of the term, but, although the name is in general usage, no inventor was given.
It obviously came into being after "Pyramids", but more than that I cannot say, and will not guess.

Day three:

There was no mail today, so I feared the post office had caught fire. But when I called them to find out, no one knew nothing about any fire. I'll be filing a complaint later; they obviousy have losted my package!

This is awesome Marky. I've done all the books up to 'Soul Music' (but I cheated and read 'Night Watch' and 'Going Postal'). Interested to see your progress! I do know its possible to virtually inhale Pratchett, what with no chapters and the engaging writing.

Re: The Discworld Diaries

I've read them all already, but a friend of mine wanted to read sourcery. So I picked it up in a shop because I hadn't read it in a while and vaguely remembered it being a good book. Now I've bought it, and also The Last Continent, and I can't put it down because even though I know the ending, getting there is so much fun

Wizard: [rhetorically] "What would humans be without love?"
Death: "Rare."

Uhhhhhhh

just clicked, this is a thing you will notice with the discword books, I find it takes a minute to get the humour but when you do. Its about as dry as dry can be, when relaxing on a sun lounger in a desert with a glass of warm sand!

I was reading Carpe Jugulum last night, and there was something that got a real chuckle out of me... erm... oh yes!

Day four:

I think I losted my wits just now, for I can't find them. That's a shame because I was determined to lose them wits halfway through Mort...

Re: The Discworld Diaries

I love the way pTerry immerses you in the suspense of the action and the graveness of the situation, and then does one of those "And now for something completely different" moments, and starts going on about the subject of "poetry and inspiration."

Re: The Discworld Diaries

Day five:

It's not just my wits! I'm really losing my temper, too! Where the Zark are my books?!

On a sidenote, now that my wits and temper are gone, I think I can finally say I'm not a complete fool any longer.

Re: The Discworld Diaries

Books 1-3 are passable at best, with 3 being really bad... I don't particularly like the witches books... I suggest Mort-Guards Guards as the first 2 reads personally.

Guards! Guards! is the start of the nightwatch/city watch books they are so so funny Vimes being one of the best characters ever writen, I've just put down Thud! the last of the watch books and I can't wait to read about the watch again. Every one of them is a comic gem,

Re: The Discworld Diaries

Day six:

Out of eight, not one book arrived. Not even a sign of a book arrived. Not even a hint of a sign of a book arrived.

I have the feeling you have when you're about to get slapped in the face by someone you have a secret crush on: you know it's going to come pretty darn soon and you don't want it to happen. That exact feeling, but turned around. I want something really bad, but it takes very long...
