Re: Buggers !

You should edit your post and add *SPOILERS* to the subject.

Someone who hasn't read the book yet or the sequels (like me) can get really annoyed.

Re: Buggers !

I can't agree about the middle of the book. I though the whole thing was paced well.

Re: Buggers !

If you havent read the first book you dont belong in this thread

When he went that base in the asteriod it can alittle less good to me.

The military school was very fun, the games, how he handled everything that happened to him. Killing that bully damn.

Re: Buggers !

Maybe that's because of the fact that the whole environment in the asteroid was less comfortable and more nerve wrecking as a whole than in military school. He was getting older and they had to make him go through some really rough moments to get him ready. The whole setup is meant to be less inviting and more of a stifling situation than the previous sections.

The parts I liked least were the whole Demosthenes and Locke side-story. I know they serve a purpose, and they where interesting, but still I was so enraptured in the whole battle school ordeal that I didn't want to be taken away from Ender at any moment.

Re: Buggers !

No it wasnt cause what happened but cause that Card told that part of the story worse. It wasnt as interesting.

I didnt mind Demosthenes and Locke cause they had a purpose.

What i liked least was his brother. He was alittle unbelievable to me. Not how smart he was or that he took over the world. But the hole

" i will kill you Ender!.... no i dont meant it i love you"

I was like come on thats lame.

Re: Buggers !

He does seem bipolar beyond belief, but I think Card was setting something up for the sequels. I bet all the 'i love you' thing, and his posing as Locke were part of his mastermind evil plan. Maybe he exagerated both Peter's evilness and Valentine's sheepishness to emphasize the extremes at war in Ender's mind.

Re: Buggers !

Valentine was more realistic, i liked her.

Have you finished reading this book?

Then you should know what happens to Peter. I doubt he will be an issue in the sequals.

Re: Buggers !

Ok, done.
I still think there should be something about him in the sequels. Maybe in Bean's trilogy or something. It did seem to me like OSC was setting something up with Peter, and it would have been interesting to see how it would be developed.

Re: Buggers !

Addy i hope i didnt spoil anything for you.

I thought you said you had finished the book.

When i say sequals i mean the the rest of Ender's tale. I dont really care much about Bean's trilogy or any other series in the same universe.

Re: Buggers !

No, what you said didn't spoil anything. I was just 20 pages from the end. I was hoping that Peter would do more damage than Card mentions. Maybe he did, since there's a line towards the end of the book about him talking to Ender via the ansible recalling his crimes and stuff like that. So I suppose there could be (or maybe there is and I don't know, since this is the first enderverse book I read) a place for Peter's 'adventures' somewhere in the series.

One funny thing about the book is the expressions Card takes from Portuguese, like gíria (Brazilian Portuguese for slang), and neh, which we use very frequently in the same sense he used in the book (only it's spelled ).

Re: Buggers !

Peter plays a fairly large role in beans series. I have read the first three and they are pretty good.

Re: Buggers !

Less philosopical and more action oriented than Ender's series is what i hear about Bean series. Is that correct?

I believe that comes from the fact that Card spent two years in Brazil, serving a mission for his church.

Yes, he mentions that in his book How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy, which I highly recommend.
