Research ideas

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew some good sites for geographical info-fairly obvious I know, but I have found nearly all the sites I have been on to be hugely scientific in their wording, which is great- but I'm after more generalised info, like the way specific communities live and work and adapt to their environment. What am I doing wrong??

Any ideas on sites that are a bit less dry- (despite my attempts all I find when searching for materials are scientific research papers and stuff, or tourist board sites that deal in sights rather than lifestyles,) would be most appreciated.

Of particular interest are cloud forests and the impact these have on local settlements, communities etc. (Lushan Mountains eg)

I am getting a bit bug eyed from reams of facts and figures on the computer screen. (Thats me)

You can always try asking some questions in the sticky at the top of the Aspiring board - that's what it is there for, and I'm sure there'd be at least a couple of knowledgeable people banging around these parts willing to answer your queries...

Re: Research ideas

I don't know about cloud forests, but how about searching for old books, even for children, who deal with world history. They usually give random info about civilizations of the past. Although biased, they do give some random interesting stuff about say inca civilizations and such.

inca example
this is what I mean

Re: Research ideas

Cheers for the ideas-I have been to the good ol' library and picked up a lot of books-the Incas are a good source of material.
