Ironhands daughter

I think this is the best Gemmel book i've read. I love the ending to the book when the highlanders win because of the women. What do you guys think? I know she seems kind of cruel.

Oh and why is she called the hawk queen when her hawk dies so early on.

Re: Ironhands daughter

Right, I am going to commit a cardinal sin, right now, but here goes... Despite being a huge fan of Gemmell (I've read every book, some several times) I thought this book and the sequel were awful. The villains were one dimensional, the heroine was a real bitch, and the most interesting characters, Ballistar and Ironhand, were largely ignored. The best Gemmel book, in my opinion is Lion of Macedon or Wolf in Shadow, with Hero in the Shadows being a close second. Not that i'm saying it is a bad book, thats just my opinion

legend is pretty unbeatable but you can't really go wrong with the Rigante books and the Shannow books as well

Re: Ironhands daughter

Yeah Legend is unbeatable. Rigante was my first DG and i love it even more cause of that and the great story. My fav characters Conn,Jaim!

Shannow is great. Best tragic hero i have seen. I felt so bad for him during the hole time i was reading Wolf in shadow.

Still waiting for my two other Shannow.

Re: Ironhands daughter

I have read only 8 of so far and i havent read in anyone in fantasy near him.

He is also my fav writer overall. Cause his strenghts are universal things like great complex characters, world and story. Its hard to find characters as interesting as Druss,Shannow,Jaim,Conn,Rek etc in any genre of fiction.

Huge gap in response but never mind have you read the lion of macedon yet ?? and if so did you watch 300 ?? i felt let down by it as i went into the theatre thinking DG and apart from the fight scenes there was no real story telling which was a let down felt like it was kinda they came they saw they lost THE END

Re: Ironhands daughter

300 was only action feast. it was pretty empty storywise.

Read the comic and read Pressfield's book which i hear is good.

You know while reading Legend i thought Gemmell would write the best version of 300 since the actual battle in ancient times
