Is it really being considered for a TV or film? Wow, that was just me musing at first. That's really interesting. Not all books would make good tv shows or films. I dunno if i could see "lucas" as a tv series as much as "Being".
Also I agree, a bad film doesn't reflect the book. I just thought it'd be interesting to see this amazing book relating to the screen. I really hope they keep to the book. If they can stay true to the book nothing could go wrong.
Any hints on which companies are interested
And surely it may even enourage more kids to read!

tv & film

No, there's nothing definite yet - my film agent is talking to various companies in the UK and the US, and things are looking pretty good ... but you can never tell with film and TV companies. They show a lot of interest in millions of books but that doesn't usually mean anything. Nothing's definite until it's definite ... and even then you can't be sure.

Kevin has a point- even if the company "options" the book, they still might not make it- it took 20 odd years for The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy to be made into a film.

I think it would be good as a film - there would be some great scenes and action shots, and the like.
as for thinking to himself, in the film Fight Club the charactor does a lot of that, and I think it works quite well.
Although I would be annoyed if the director was to change the script too much - the ruined the harry potter films by doing that.

im not all against films but really tv isnt always the answer people should read the books and not just the watch the films kevin if you really want more money fame or whatever it is you want push your book join a campaign for children to read like sports for kids with dame kelly holmes do some good in this world(not saying your doing bad) and encpurage children to read ask supermarkets that dont push sports or computers to give out vouchers for money off books approach the primeminister a film at the moment should be considred but think can i do more by pushing books than giving peple who cannot be bothered to read an easy route. i recently watched jane eyre but that hasnt neccesarly made me want to read the book the only reason im reading jane eyre is because ive wanted to since the age of 5 and now i feel like im at the right mature reading level to read it. please kevin think books not films promote books and youll be more famous than people thinking oh kevin brooks didnt he write the book for the film being authors should try promoting books before films.

List of people who would be good for the campiagin or more people to read books: jacqualine wilson(think i spelt it wrong if so sorry)
robert muchamore
a few famous celebriteies not many footballers people who
really do read

sorry about the lack of bristolianism
im not all against a film i just think other paths should be considered

aemilie, I reject your ideas that the Harry Potter films suck. Alfonso Cu?ron did a brilliant job directing Prisoner Of Azakaban. If that's how you spell it.

nadiah, you have a point- thinking conveyed by voiceover can work very well- like in Fight Club.

However, it is generally frowned upon, especially for exposition. Moments that the book is filled with- "Who am I?" moments, if you will- are better shown in film with no dialogue at all; for example, that bit in Jaws where the guy looks out at the ocean and realises he's gonna have to get the shark? Spielburg reduces all that emotion down to one slow, zoom of the ocean. Now THAT'S direction!

Anyway, before I get sidelined, my main point- Being is filled with those questions and with description. In my opinion, transferring it to film, you'd lose half the book. It's also quite episodic and to be honest, I just don't feel it'd work as a film.

Just look at The Da Vinci Code- almost written like a film and yet they still made a bad film out of it.

I agree the Harry Potter films are well directed. Some of the cast are, questionable.

I think if it was going to go into a film/tv show, you'd really have to think about who you where going to cast. I think you'd need to cast some good young talent to play the main characters. I think that's what would make the film work. With good talent the questions in Being will be portrayed on the screen well. Especially with Robert's development, him growing from boy to man. With them often being filmed out of sequence it would be hard for any actor to really show the development of the character. I wonder who they'd get to play the main characters?

I wouldn't like to see half the book lost if it was going to be put to the screen. Hopefully Kevin Brooks will have lots of say and make sure that it is kept how the book should be.

i didn't say they weren't well directed,
i merely implied that they don't appear in my top 20 films.
and sazzy i agree,
i think you'd have to be very careful about casting,
and make sure it's a very strong script.
if there are ANY weak points in it,
then it would probably fall apart.
