well, cillit, mateeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
i was ******* LOLing at that!!!
[aha!!]
i think the parasite idea is interesting,
but am still not sure why it matters so much,
the book deals more with his problems
(in a sort of kill the person he loves and leave him in a foreign country kind of 'dealing')
than what he is,
also the description of what was in him could have been more precise for me
(for me that is, i'm sure many other readers found it adequate)
and so i'm not sure what really is inside him,
could anyone enlighten me?
even if it's just book quotes?!

Sounds to me like some kind of liquid metal. There's also a hard outer shell, probably plastic.

Hmmm, emilie, you're right, the book isn't about whether or not he's human- at least, it didn't seem that way to me. Very HIP of you.

However, the forum's title is "Is Robert human?" Now, I'm not sure if the moderator could really be any clearer about what this bit of the forum is for.

Without trying to be harsh or anything- I'm a very HIP person.

I think I detect a note of sarcasm. Nevertheless, I hold my ground in thinking I am quite hip.

And, hey, emilie, interesting theory regarding Robert- maybe the thing inside him is some kind of high-tech hip replacement?

God, we've subjugated this forum.

aemilie, my name IS a type of cleaning agent.

And it appears the only people still posting are LibraryLou and Rebecca The Mod.

So now, um, basically, unless Lou or Rebecca wanna cut in-

-you're talking exclusively to someone whose screenname is a type of cleaning agent.

At least my screenname isn't my REAL name!!!

mate

If Rebecca's Queen Of Mods, that pretty much makes her just a normal mod, because there aren't any others.

I know it's a variant! However, consider this- it's not THAT hard. I mean, it's not like you ran your real name through a Vigenere, then through ROT-13, then into an anagram.

Now THAT would be hard.

Wow, that would be SO hard.

Anyway, the phrase "off-topic" comes to mind. Does anyone have any new theories on Being?

Right, I'll offer the obligatory "psychotic episode" theory:

Nothing in the book after Robert goes under anaesthetic is real. It's all in his mind.

Alternatively, it is indeed happening, but the robot/thing inside him is imagined by him.

Any views on that, oh boards?

Fine. Any views on that, emilie, lou or rebecca?

Well,

I've had a think about this... and briefly looked at the novel again. I can find no evidence for this theory, but if anyone wants to look much more closely and prove it, they're very welcome.

(I do quite like the title 'Queen of Mods' but I think it will distract me from my role as moderator. You guys are centre stage - I just offer my opinions from time to time.)

Re: Is he human?

What makes us human?
Feelings? flesh? I dont think any of us can decide on what robert is unless we really know what does. Do YOU know whats inside you? Have you ever looked?
