Re: No second season for Dresden Files?

I wasn't that big a fan. I started on the books, and tried very hard to ignore what I knew from the books. Even then, I didn't think it was very good. If you take the books into account, it was terrible. I'm sorry, Mr. Butcher, but your books are loads of fun, but the show sucked. JMO.

The show lacked the humor and wit of the books. That's where it really fell down as far as I was concerned. I could, grudgingly, accept a Murphy that wasn't hot, blonde and a badass, but changing her character up as much as they did was difficult.

Bob was semi-funny but not nearly as fun as he is in the books.

I like how Harry's magic works in the books, too. I like the way Butcher uses circles and the occult. It was completely left out of the show.

All of this is from watching 4 or 5 episodes. I couldn't stomach more than that. I was terribly disappointed. I'd rather see Sci-Fi invest into a GRRM or RJ cartoon or a live show with budget. There should be some money freed up with Battlestar retiring.

It's, I suppose, 'official' - though there hasn't actually *been* a press release:

Jim Butcher talks about the show and the cancellation

I think SciFi needs a good sporking for that crazy stunt.

*sigh* That's a shame. It could have been great.

I didn't get into the show as much as the books, but I did TiVo it and watch it when I could. Yes, there were problems, but they could have been ironed out. The actors were getting into the swing of the characters.

And this from the channel that will repeatedly show Mosquito!, but not give this show another chance.

Yeah - and now they're running 'Flash Gordon' - which I've heard isn't stellar...

Not only do they run 'Mosquito!' they also run 'Mansquito' and other fabulous *heavy sarcasm* works...

These aren't even "B" movies... these are like "Q" movies... as in 'quit freakin' airing them'...

Re: No second season for Dresden Files?

The camps have been heavily divided over the series - it's a love it or hate it.

I liked Paul Blackhorne and thought he did all right. There were aspects of the Harry character that were changed for TV that I *didn't* like, but overall, I thought they captured the 'spirit' of the books really well.

And man, I *loved* Bob!

The craziest thing is, I'm not sure the series was cancelled for ratings - we've never got a realy reason for WHY it wasn't picked up for a second season. Though, I'm betting they wished they'd done something since there's the writers' strike still going on (though possibly ending soonish, maybe?)

I think Paul Blackthorne is a part of the cast of new TV series called "Lipstick Jungle" which star Brooke Shields and the woman who played Andrea on "24." He probably wouldn't be available if there was second season to Dresden Files.

Actually - he took a job on "Big Shots" before that and was mostly how we were all pretty sure there wasn't going to be more of "Dresden". BTW - not the best way for the fans to find out that there's no more show.

But, yeah - he's on Lipstick Jungle now - which isn't that great as TV shows go. I've tried to watch it twice and I think I'm done.
