Martha vs Rose vs Donna

Sorry but I really do prefer Martha to Rose.

She comes across as being a bit brighter and I think the chemistry is better.

Of course I was always prejudiced against Billie Piper so that may be affecting my opinion. But I'm much happier with Martha

Re: Martha vs Rose

I think a lot of people were a bit prejudiced against Rose that is the problem putting a name in such a role was always going to be a problem but I do agree I do think there is a better chemistry between Martha and the Doctor

Re: Martha vs Rose

I also think that they seemed to focus more on her (Rose) ie the stories seemed to be more about HER and less about well...the story, or the Doctor or the two of them as a team.

Of course we're only 5 episodes in so I'll have to wait and see

Re: Martha vs Rose

Martha is smarter. Rose is a ditz. But Rose knows how to live!

I pick Rose. If I had the choice of hanging out with a really smart person or a ditzy fun person, the ditz would win out every time.

Re: Martha vs Rose

Martha... absolutely Martha... Rose was a bit dim and not in the good way, she irritated me and the whole Doctor & Rose thing really really grated against me...

Martha's bright, she's intelligent, she seems to have a better understanding of what's going on around her, what the Doctor's about etc...

Just Martha...

xx

Re: Martha vs Rose

Martha - I love the way she stands up to the Doctor, and doesn't let him steamroller her.
Just look at the way she got rid of that "just one more trip" at the end of last nights episode. A long time since the Doctor had someone stand up to him like that!

Another vote for Martha. She definitely makes a better assistant than Rose, in my opinion.

Hi every one. I'm sorry but I have got to disagree you all on the whole Martha is better than Rose thing . Because from what I can see. Any chemstry that The Doctor and Martha have is all one sided. Martha likes The Doctor but The Doctor doesn't seem to notice her in that way. But with Rose you can tell that it was love at first sight on both sides.

Re: Martha vs Rose

I didn't really like the whole Rose and The Doctor love thing and it did seem to get in the way of plot sometimes. Rose wasn't too bad though. However, I think I prefer Martha, although I hate when she looks at The Doctor with those big eyes of adoration sometimes (although I think I'd be doing it constantly if I were his companion...ahem...no, I mean I'd be too busy helping him save the universe...) I watched the Lazarus Experiment earlier (thanks Lenny!) and I like how Mrs Jones does not like the Doctor. Jackie annoyed me in the last series, tagging along with them and holding them back (although I guess you can't just completely forget the companion's family). But I loved how The Doctor was intimidated by Mrs Jones and didn't know what to say to her. After Rose's family, and well, with pretty much everyone he meets, he's used to them warming to him quickly.

Anyway, the short answer...So far, Martha seems better, but it's early days still!

Smile Re: Martha vs Rose

Martha is always trying to get The Doctor to forget about Rose. And then she gets upset when he makes it clear that he doesn't like her as anything but a friend. I agree with you on Jackie tagging along though. Although the look on The Doctor's face when he realised that Jackie was still in the TARDIS was so funny.

But as for Martha I don't think she will ever take Rose's place in The Doctors hearts.

Re: Martha vs Rose

It's got to be Martha. Especially with Tenant as the Doctor - two intelligent minds together.

Also, the way that Martha seems to be helping the Doctor do things (in the Lazarus episode, for example). I can't remember Rose doing the same sort of things - in fact, she seemed to be the one who got into trouble a lot of the time.

When I saw her in the penultimate episode of last series, and worked out that she was going to be the new companion, I was a bit sceptical, but Smith and Jones soon changed that. I also think her theme music (keep listening and you'll hear a short tune that is repeated when there's something about her - it was at the start of Smith and Jones as we watched her walk down the street, and was also in the Lazarus Experiment) is better than Rose's was.

And not a problem, Hoopy. In fact, I'll post the site for everyone.

Re: Martha vs Rose

i actually prefer the fact the doctor doesn't fancy martha back, to the whole they like each othe rbut nothing happened yawn that was doc and rose. i found that relationship too forced anyway. like the writers wanted us to believe they were in love but i didn't believe it.
i can believe martha fancies the doc and he doesn't return it though. it feels less fake

It might be down to the fact that Freema Agyeman is a much better actor than Piper.

Re: Martha vs Rose

yeah! that and maybe the scripts have improved. tho i dunno about that. i just feel that russel t davies tries too hard. he gets an idea and then tries to force it on us without natural development.
