Re: Martha vs Rose Donna is okish, yea Catherine Tate is the most annoying thing since midges but for some reason I think it works quite well. FAR better than Marthas pathetic crush anyway its nice to see some conflict

Re: Martha vs Rose I think Donna is ok actually. Way better than Martha and the whole pathetic crush she had going on. The conflict between Donna and the Doc is much better to watch. Martha would just go along with him, or if she didnt would sound like she was just whining.

Re: Martha vs Rose Donna is turning into a strong moral center for the doctor. She's like Rose in the respect she's a normal girl just trying to get by, then gets thrust into these odd situations. But unlke Rose she's a bit older and a bit more ready to confront the Doctor. We shall see how this pans out but I'm hopefull this will get better and better.

Re: Martha vs Rose I like Donna. She's brassy and she has some annoying verbal mannerisms -- but she has a big heart. With Martha, I always felt that every time she did something brave or loyal she was looking over her shoulder to see if the Doctor noticed and approved. Donna doesn't care about the Doctor's approval. She answers to her own conscience. At the same time, if he convinces her that something has to be done, she doesn't flinch from doing it.

Re: Martha vs Rose vs Donna I haven't watched this show since Donna has been on. She absolutely ruins it. She's ugly and makes ugly faces and sounds like an idiot and is a snotty witch. I don't see any good qualities in her at all. She's ruining Dr Who and I truly hope that she is replaced soon. Rose was great and Martha was not too bad even if she was like a puppy dog most of the time. I really miss Rose though.

Re: Martha vs Rose vs Donna I've only seen one show with Donna -- two-parter with atmos. Can't say I liked her much in the first part, but with the second began to like her more. Probably just takes some time to get to know her. She is quite a bit different from Martha and Rose though. I like both Martha and Rose about equally -- guess they didn't seem that different to me.

Re: Martha vs Rose vs Donna I misspoke, I should have said I haven't been able to watch it since Donna came on. I've watched 3 episodes cringing through each. Maybe I'll give it another try some other time, but doubt it. Also its being played on SciFi channel and the resolution is not nearly as good as BBC America. Could be another reason I'm not watching.

Re: Martha vs Rose vs Donna I was dead against her being involved in DW, but I have to confess - and this is tough for me - but she's now my favourite companion since Susan Maybe it's the Moffat Effect ![]()

Re: Martha vs Rose vs Donna The problem with the women is the man. David Tennant has zero sexual affect, unlike his predecessor. I assume he reproduces by budding, like a sea anemone. So Martha having a crush on him was totally unbelievable, because she'd hot, he's not, making it creepy. So Donna works better because the creepy goo-goo eyes Neema was forced to make at Tennant isn't going on. I still prefer Billie Piper and the first (new series) Doc. They worked fine. He had a wired quality Tennant's perpetual exophthalmic expression's a poor substitute for, and as someone who lives in the Colonies I loved Piper's delicious working-class accent and her sturdy peasant beauty. Interesting that apres Doc she's been working in BBC costume dramas as an upper-class or therabouts heroine.

I find Martha to be a bit of a wet blanket and I keep wanting to put a rocket up her jacksy to get her going! Like Rose, and although I detested The Catherine Tate Show, I have to say, I think she's bliddy brilliant as the Doctor's assistant. | |

Re: Martha vs Rose vs Donna I was quite surprised and impressed with Rose's acting ability and I thought she was an excellent and active companion. One of the best ones was one she flirted a lot with the Doc in that new Earth episode, as she was pretending to be Cassandra. Martha - I dont rate much as an actor and I think she could have done better with the material she had. Donna is growing on me and some of the lines she has is making me chuckle - I am looking forward to seeing where it leads.

Re: Martha vs Rose vs Donna I think Donna is the best, she has a hinterland and knows her own mind. When the Doctor shows her some strange new world she doesn't get carried away like Rose or Martha might have done. As someone put it very eloquently, Donna is the moral centre. She might seem a bit superficial but when it comes to the crunch her first concern is always that everyone is treated fairly. Character issues aside, Tate is a more accomplished actor. She is known for her comedy and as such has great comic timing, so is funnier. Also Catherine Tate has done a lot of "serious" acting on the stage. She has more range. I am not hating on Piper and Freeman, they were both good but I prefer Tate.
