Re: 29.06: The Lazarus Experiment And, "We need to turn this up to eleven..." which actually contradicts my own observation above: there was some sort electronics involved in or near the organ, which did go from 110 to 111.

Re: 29.06: The Lazarus Experiment Great episode. Is it jus me though, or is Tennants Doctor a bit more squeamish towards death then Ecclestons? The Doctor was always one to shrug of a death or two when otheres where still hanging in the balance.

Re: 29.06: The Lazarus Experiment Just re-watched the episode, the old fashioned way (VHS), so some more thoughts. Martha's sister got a couple of great one-liners: Dr.L: That's a lovely perfume, what is it? LJ: Soap! and LJ: So what about the age gap - it works for Catherine Zeta Jones... And the throw-away by Dr. Lazarus: "I was born over there by the butcher's shop"... do we think that's accidental or a subtle reference to one of his alter egos, Hilary Briss, butcher and purveyor of "special stuff". I'm guessing it's a setup for the half-guessed/half-spoilered assumed end of the season, but there's been a lot of talk by the Doctor in this season about longevity, about the pain and loneliness of longevity. I noted also that the episode credits had "Mysterious Man" listed; although we don't hear his words, or really get enough visual angle to lip-read he must have told the anti-men Mrs Jones that the Doctor is dangerous and that "death and destruction" follow him. Sufficiently that she "knows who he really is" according to the end of episode phone message she leaves for Martha. That mother is a much more complex character than Jackie...

Re: 29.06: The Lazarus Experiment Good episode, certainly an improvement on last weeks offering. The Lazarus Monster was a bit iffy at times, but it still delivered. Seems that Lazarus managed to give himself a version of "Barclay's Protomorphosis Disease" from Star Trek: TNG. It was no less an impressive adversary, but the end in the church initially reminded me of The Quatermass Experiment finale with the cathedral. Might be because of Mr Tennant and Mr Gatiss having worked on Quatermass a couple of years ago that aided my comparison. Quite a few references in this episode, The Fly, This Is Spinal Tap, The League of Gentlemen etc. I really enjoyed getting those. Interesting to note that the only sensible anagram I can come up with for Mister Harold Saxon is not too far removed in that it is H. Saxon as Time Lord. Of course, this could be complete rubbish. I'm just as on the edge of my brain about the rest of the series, given the teaser at the end of this weeks episode. Need to alter the passage of time so that the next fortnight zips past! Can't wait!

(but can I suggest this end of the thread gets moved to the "Spoiler Speculation part 2" thread...? to avoid polluting the episode-ness of this one) | |

Re: 29.06: The Lazarus Experiment Looks like I'm going a bit against the grain here but I didn't think very much of this episode. Too much given away in the story title. Doctor holds sonic screwdriver like it's some kind of Walther PPK (which, by the way, is used far too much as situation solvers). Terrible looking monster. Hokum masquerading as genetics. Everybody runs around and shouts a lot and story finally resolved with the Doc getting to play the incidental music on a big organ. Sorry, but I wasn't impressed.

Re: 29.06: The Lazarus Experiment Meh sorry to be the party pooper but I thought the whole episode was lame from start to finish, and my two mates I watched it with weren't impressed either. Aye, some good jokes and stuff, but typical plot and samey premise. ![]()
