The Best and Worst Gemmell Character - Science Fiction Fantasy Chronicles: forums

Hi i'm new to this place so hello, i'm a big Gemmell fan and have been since i first read wolf in shaddow and even though i still haven't read legend yet i have read pretty much everything else.

I would be interested to know which gemmell characters rank highly, my own favourites Kaelin and Con, becouse the reader is introduced to them at a much earlyer age than they were with say waylander and so are more emotionally attatched. Thats my reason anyway, also overall i prefered the rigante novels to the drenai, maybe im missing something.

Gemmell is also good at creating characters who you fully dislike but are not the bad guy, like amaziga from the shannow novels, i hated her.

How you all keeping, i'm new, nice to be be here...

This may come as a surprise but one of my favourite characters was actually the old Gladiator Rage, you remember the guy who trained Bane the Bastard. If the old axemaster ever had a worthy opponent bare knukle i reckon it would ave been Rage.

My favourite gemmell character would probably be three swords, he wasnt in it much but he ruled

My least favourite would have to be Ustarte i mean she had all that power and she didnt abuse it AT ALL

The best Gemmell character - Jaim or Tenaka Khan

The worst Gemmell character - Not sure. I will come back to this one.

My faves are Dace/Tarantio and of course Viruk. Not sure about the worst though, but I thought Tenaka Khan was pretty lame.

Actually I find quite often that his secondary characters are more interesting than the main protagonists- Tenaka, Talaban, Mananan, the guy from Quest for Lost Heroes all spring to mind as more-or-less stock heroes with superior sidekicks. Even the mighty Waylander loses out to Yu-Yu Liang in Hero in the Shadows, imo

Very true, but I will always harbour doubts of your sanity until the day you retrakt the Tenaka Khan statement.

the best, in my opinion, is definatly parmenion (lion of macedon)
the worse is that girl from ironhand's daughter,cant seem to remember her name
i mean, i realy hated her while reading the book

best character for me was Jon Shannow - though I must I agree that Tenaka Khan was fantastic!

worst for me was Kaelin Ring - too 1-dimensional for me (although I guess a few gemmell knockers out there might think they all were!)

p.s. it was sigarni - she was the white-haired daughter of ironhand

Of the main characters Waylander was always one of my favourites, but the best in my opinion would be Skilgannon. Haunted by love and guilt he's quite interesting...
