Trying hundreds wouldn't really scratch the surface of the few million combinations that are possible. So, yeah. They must have missed it. They likely have started with addresses near in order with Abadyos. Maybe they went in the wrong 'direction' from the start point. 'Up' instead of 'down' where that Helopolis address was.

From a TV series POV, the Torment of Tantilus was a cool stroke of writing to explain what did happen in those 70 years. To put it into the Stargate movie would have been boring, it would have slowed the plot so much you would have hated it and would have wondered why they spent time telling you about it. Stargate was wholly an action movie. Plot moves fast or not at all. Reason most people redem the movie with it's spotty characters is that all sorts of cool stuff happens fast. However, devote a episode to the idea that the US military dropped the ball yet again and then make visiting the destination a vital aspect to getting in contact with four races of aliens: brilliant!
