Hi!

I'm Jen and I've been a scifi fan since I was about seven years old when my Dad introduced me to Star Trek: The Next Generation and have been hooked to the genre ever since.

Other shows I've liked include Star Trek TOS and DS9, Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, Firefly, and The X-Files. There have been other shows I watched every so often but the ones listed I've seen every episode and loved the most.

For books I haven't been reading a lot of science fiction recently do to college and not having a lot of time but I've started getting back into it and recently I've read the Harry Potter series and the Young Wizards series. There's definitely more but I'd have to think on it a bit to come up with a real list.

I've also watched a lot of science fiction movies which I'll list some other time

Beyond being a scifi/fantasy fan I'm also currently working on my Master's degree in IT and am interested in Web Design and Accessibility.

That's it for now, looking forward to reading the forums and talking with everyone.

JR

Sorry -- it always sounds as if you're introducing yourself at the AA (Authors Anonymous):

Hello, my name is [insert name]. I've been addicted since I was young, and I've been looking for some friendly people to talk to who'll possibly help me with my dependency...

He, he!

Then again, this site is kind of addictive...

WELCOME!!! It's nice to have a fellow web designer here!

So? Is "hello, my name's Chris, I write bad fiction, worse poetry and bully everyone about his, her or its grammar" that bad a start? This one seems to have the addiction under control, for the time being, contrary to some (we'll cure that. Biblioholics anonymous attempts to deepen your dependency, not relieve you of it) And as regards the addictive qualities of the site, how much time have you been spending here when you should have been writing, then?
Oops. sorry, your introduction thread, I shouldn't be chatting to someone else across it. What you read is obviously your affair, though you'll get enough suggestions and tittilation here that reicarnation becomes the only option for getting through your "to be read" pile. Then you'll be kept chatting to all hours so you don't have time to read any of them, let alone start writing the multi-volume opus you're suddenly inspired with...

Welcome in. Occasionally it gets a bit strange here (most of the rest of the time it's very strange) but it's a great place to find people with tastes similar to yours, and debate the dissimilarities.

Oh, I don't know about having it under control -- sometimes I know I should be doing something else (like preparing my manuscript before I send it out), but instead I find myself on here, lurking. Sometimes you just have to reply to a post, don't you? And then I love helping people in the critiques section (I must be nuts!), so, yeah, my addiction is increasing...

Yeah, I have noticed my writing BIC time (butt-in-chair time) decrease lately -- and I'm pretty sure it started when I joined... Maybe there's a correlation...

Doh! Yep, I've logged in again when I should be doing something else!

Watch out for this, JR, you'll find yourself caught soon...

Re: Hi!

G'day and welcome!

I've seen a few of those series, but then I prefer reading (strangely enough). My favourite non-H. P. Lovecraft SF writer at the moment is Bruce Boston.
