Storm Front has a new cover art.

I went to my local Barnes and Noble yesterday and saw taht Storm Front has a new cover art that matches the cover art style of his more recent books such as Proven Guilty & Dead Beat. I prefer the original cover art because it just seems more eye catching to me.

Also, BN sure has put a lot more copies of the Dresden books on the shelves since the last time I went there. I'm guessing it has something to do with it the TV series being on the Sci Fi Channel.

Re: Storm Front has a new cover art.

Yes, Chris McGrath (the art of chris mcgrath) has started working on new cover designs for the first 6 books. ( I guess that's so they'll all match - darn it, now I have to go buy MORE copies... sheesh *g*)

Chris does some really great work.

And, yeah, the TV show has definitely done a bit to increase the number of copies of Dresden books on the shelves at B&N (and other bookstores) - though, I'm relatively certain that my 'buy a copy of the first book and give it to a friend to get them hooked' plan got quite a few more copies on the shelves in the store in the town where I live. (Which I say b/c my store carries very little of the 'non-uber-popular' stuff - stupid store.)

What do you think of the Chris McGrath covers?

I never understood the hat he is wearing on the book covers, because it was never mentioned in the books. However I always thought it looked very cool. That artist has some very cool art. Very life-like.

Chris said that (and I'm paraphrasing from memory here) whoever had asked for the cover art had thought there was a hat, so he put the hat on. He does have a drawing of Harry sans hat on his website.

I rather like the hat myself too.

Re: Storm Front has a new cover art.

Hi, Everyone!

I'm new and a HUGE fan of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden novels.

I have a question about the new covers. The old covers used to tell you (at the bottom) which book each one was in the series (#1, #2, etc.) so you could read them in order, and the storyline made more sense. But that info is gone from the new covers.

Does anyone know why they did this? It makes it very confusing for someone trying to read the books in order. The only thing I can think is the publisher believes leaving this info off the cover will sell more books...people buying whatever books are available and not trying to read them in order. I know at my B&N not all the books in the series are always available (in stock).

Any thoughts on this?

Re: Storm Front has a new cover art.

I don't know why they took the numbering system off the books, but generally the publisher will list the books in order on one of the first pages inside the book. They've done so in "Proven Guilty", but in "Dead Beat" the list is in the back of the book.

Another point is that Jim's said he's written the books so that they don't have to be read in order; each one could be read as a stand-alone casebook. Sure, later books reference things from earlier books, but they're not necessarily imperative to understanding what's going on in the current book.

(What's really fun is to read them backwards... start with the new one and go back to the beginning. *g*)

Re: Storm Front has a new cover art.

Anyone know which cover is the original cover?

This is from 2000 in paperback is my cover, very cool. Funny thing is that he looks alittle like Dexter from the famous Showtime series hehe.

That is not the original cover. This is the original cover: Storm Front (Dresden Files, book 1) by Jim Butcher. I prefer all the original covers than the new ones.

Re: Storm Front has a new cover art.

I just want all of my book covers to match! If they rerelease the first 6 in hardback w/ the new covers, I'll be happy.

I like the original covers, but the new ones grew on me and I like them too. From a marketing perspective, the newer ones are more eye-catching.

I don't NOT like the new covers, but I'm just partial to the old ones. Also, some of the new covers have "as seen on the SciFi channel." I don't like stuff like that. In my eyes, the cover looks marred.

Weren't the first 5 or 6 books only available in mass market editions? I think the new covers make it seem more mature.

IMO thats very bad cover compared to the cover in my version.

It looks so cool,menacing.

The lighting over the city, house is alot more generic.

Yeah - the first 6 were only in paperback - dunno why it took 7 books to get to hardback, but yeah...

I don't like the 'as seen on SciFi' on the book jackets either - it irks me!

Re: Storm Front has a new cover art.

That irks me too. Those things always irk me, like the book didnt exist before the tv/movie version. Like its a book version and not the original story.

Which is why i still havent bought Asimov's famous I.Robot i cant stand the cover of the book with Will Smith's movie and " Now a Motion Picture "
