Pulled a Belgarath lately? This thread is the result of an off-topic wander in the 'If there ever was a movie?'... thread. Have YOU ever 'Pulled a Belgarath'? (Thanks to MastaMystic for that fine piece of Belgarathery) Just made up a word for the heck of it, or seriously bent an existing word, because the language can't stretch far enough to accomodate you? I hope this won't be a dead thread, if it is, I shall be rather upset. My word of the day is therefore 'Belgarathery' - things that are like Belgarath! ![]()

Re: Pulled a Belgarath lately? Lol - I do it all the time ![]() All of those witty Silkisms and Stragenisms tend to rub off on me sometimes. Lol - I guess those two count as "Pulling a Belgarath", too! ![]()

Re: Pulled a Belgarath lately? A Stragenism - a line which may be intended to offend or show complete ruthlessness, whilst maintaining a calm and urbane, polite exterior. For example: When meeting Ehlana for the first time. "Just for the experience, Sparhawk," the blond northerner said. "King Wargun's court is a bit crude. The court of Elenia is reputed to be exquisitely courteous and totally depraved. A studious man always seizes these opportunities to expand his education." ![]()

I haven't read the books in a long time, so I probably wouldn't be able to give any examples right now, though. And welcome to the Chronicles, Lady Ariana! ![]() | |

Re: Pulled a Belgarath lately? You mean pretend knowing everything even when you are not sure of anything ? Or giving orders to everyone, not matter their social position ? Geez, I adore Belgarath ! ![]() On the other hand, Belgarath took also from time to time the behaviour of the others disciples, like Belmakor.

Re: Pulled a Belgarath lately? Ummm no, Alexa, Belgarath can draw on seven thousand years of experience and often acts on very specific instructions. He knows what he's talking about.

Re: Pulled a Belgarath lately? Not when the Prophecy decides otherwhise. Remember the prophecy address directly to Garion and has a lot of fun when Belgarath is forced to accept things. I agree with his seven thousands years, but the Gods were not fooled by Belgarath's temper.

Re: Pulled a Belgarath lately? Actually I thought Belgarath used the 7 millenia as a club to try to get his way. you know "I've been around seven thousand years so I know what I'm talking about" still got his sails punctured because it never worked. The "purpose" of light actually liked smacking him down. the instance in "Belgarath the sorceror" where he suddenly got it that the prophecy wouldn't allow understanding until the proper time and was confirmed BY the prophecy that it was sure he'd get it...... eventually..... Haven't made up words, or smacked a few together because one cuoldn't recall the appropriate word in decades. though I DID described the smell of skunk spray as "Wet-Electric-Garlic" at one point. seemed to match the impressions of the aftermath of a cat/polecat confrontation. (not MY cat thankfully)

Re: Pulled a Belgarath lately? I've got one! I think it should be a serious candidate for standardisation... Constrabulation: embarrassment on behalf of, or in sympathy to, someone else. Usage: "Julie forced herself to watch Gareth's dubious karaoke rendition of Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun', her face growing redder and redder as her constrabulation increased."
