Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen This is a question that creeps in often to the Gemmell board and the truth of it is, it is highly unlikely that any of his books would be converted to the big screen as DG was not a fan of it and now after his passing I am sure his wife would respect his wishes. As for the theory of a film the problem would be to find suitable people to play Davids larger than life characters and there is a largew thread dedicated to it but if they could do it well I would like to see Waylander or Wolf in Shadow

Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen I wouldnt say that DG wasnt a fan of having one of his books turned into a film, perhaps it was more a case of the fact that in order for it to happen, the standard movie contract would mean that he lost control of his characters. He also said that if certain directors came along interested it would inspire serious thought.

Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen I personally would love to see Waylander: The Movie, but i agree that it would be a difficult task to do DG's work justice on the big screen.

Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen Well after watching 300 I suppose Lion of Macedon has serious potential. Likewise with other effects available then Legend would work well. Now if anyone has a few million that they want to giv me I'll get on with making the DG film the fans deserve.

Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen How about a game instead of a film, first? You could have a RPG playing as Druss or Waylander, or a RTS based Legend. If done properly, it could pique the interest of lots of people who havent read his books yet

Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen Yet again Bradford boy you'd have a lot of problems, initially keeping the combat to a Gemmell feel, the plot lines, the settings, and obviously you couldnt really set the campaigns where they run into any "known" characters as it would more than likely ruin it. Then you have to whom would you trust to do a descent job of the conversion etc and then avoiding copyright of other roleplay systems. Its a tricky situation and whilst some people convert systems to fit into the setting thats the only way that it can currently be done. Officially I dont think that there will be one, but trying to keep to the truth and flavour of the originals is going to be too tricky.

Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen I heard a rumour before DGs' passing about Legend being brought to the silver screen. He even mentioned something about it in an interview later that year. Personally I think it's the most likely for several reasons. Mainly that it's by far his most accessible work, it was already adapted to a graphic novel to reach a different market and it was, of course, his first success. I've always had trouble with the concept of finding an actor to play Druss.

Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen If they did do a movie of Legend it would not matter who they got to play him and other main characters like Hogun and Rek is that a large portion of the readers are going to see them as looking different than the filmmakers

| Double-stuff Oreos! | Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen I think legend would be easiest to form as a film, fairly simple etc. But finding actors is a difficulty. Something I thought LOTR would have trouble with especially Aragorn and Gandalf and they wroked out ok, not perfect to my mind but pretty good. A film has to be enjoyed somewhat for what it is, despite the fact that it will differ from readers impressions/ideas of character. |
