I think Eric Bana is a more versatile actor and he has a more rugged look.

But it came out several years afterword and its more like historical fantasy.

Numbers wise it sold like Gemmell books. Film rarely do anything for their books unless they are LOTR level,HP.

Alternative-historical fiction, I would say.

For example, Homer said that Achilles more or less overwhelmed Hector, whupped his arse big time. David said it was an almost equal fight between two physical supermen, Achilles just edging Hector due to Achilles being much younger. Achilles died first due to poison, placed on Hector's sword to destroy Hector's almost godlike superhero image.

Homer: Helen was a exceptionally beautiful , had "the face that launched a thousand ships".
David: Helen was a quite simple, rather plain looking woman.

Homer: Priam was a soft, gentle king
David: Priam was a supermacho, superconfident, man-among-men hard man type of Trojan monarch. A ladies man, had a roving eye for the girls, constantly on the lookout for his next bedroom conquest. Anyone was fair game for him, including his son's wives.

Homer: Achilles was blonde, Hector was dark haired.
David: Achilles was dark haired, Hector was golden haired.

Maybe a professional wrestler, or ex-professional wrestler, could play a Gemmelian hero n excel in his role, too.

I just recalled, that Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson looked quite credible, impressive, even, as a sword-wielding warrior king in 'the Scorpion King', a while back.

I was thinking 'The Rock' could pull off Druss pretty well, too. Movies can never do everything that the books do, but I'm sure it would still be fun to watch. I liked The Scorpion King a lot, and the plot to that was nowhere near as good as Legend.

(First post after a lot of lurking!)

Excuse me, but did you just say The Rock as Druss? ...No words can discribe the violation of Lord Gemmell's work you just wrote.

I'd like to see Legend in an animation, like the old Manga type films. Fist of the North star springs to mind, gritty and bloody. that way hollywood couldn't butcher the story and make it a PG13 for mass market release

I truly hope none of David's work ever make it to the big screen but if they do I hope that Stella Gemmell will oversee the project(s) from the beginning to the end and don't do ***** without her consent and/or approval.

Seriously, that's exactly who I thought of when I started reading the Waylander books. I could even picture Clint (the young Clint - from the 80s!) playing the part. Good stuff.
(Hereoes in the Shadows is my favorite - gotta love Yu-Yu!)

I also think Kebra the bowman could be played wonderfully by Scott Glenn.
Clint was already an fairly old by the 80's. He did The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly in 1966. That's where he's at his best. He might do well in Shannow.

Re: Do u think any of gemmell books will make it to the big screen

I don't think that Gemmell was not a fan of his books being turned into film, it was more the fact the he lost the rights (and therefore the control) of his characters which was why he kept turning the movies down. I can only assume he wanted to retain rights of his characters as he wanted to write more about them in the future, but, unfortunately, as we know, that is no longer an option, so a movie might be made.

I think Peter Jackson would do the books justice, he seems to be a little more grounded than other Hollywood directors.
