Re: Sorry to inflict this on you - US Bonehunters cover

I was expecting a lot worse. Usually a bronzed badly drawn warrior clutching a sword and a dusky half dressed maiden on American covers.

Fantasy covers in the US are usually embarassing to be seen with.

Like, say, the one they used for Gardens of the Moon?

HA! I'd never seen that cover before. Boy do they like their archetypes.

Hey, wait til you see the one they were going to use for Deadhouse Gates, until it caused such an uproar that they changed it to use the UK cover

Hmm, seems like they used it for the Russian edition...

And of course Memories of Ice shouldn't be ignored either:

The others had been ok, up to this point

That man's head is too small.

I couldn't see the link, not allowed from this location it said.

Speaking of dreadful covers, the Robert Jordan covers are often out of proportion. You'd think that popular as the books are, they'd find somebody who could draw realistically.

The full artwork: it's a little better, but still not great.

SPOILERS!!!!

It needs the bear-monster chasing them in the scene, and the other carriages. Then it might be decent.

Re: Sorry to inflict this on you - US Bonehunters cover

While it's not the scene I would choose for The Bonehunters, it's not too bad of a cover IMO. It's not nearly so embarrasing as the US covers for Gardens of the Moon or Memories of Ice. (And that original cover for Deadhouse Gates..... )

I actually like this better than the UK cover for Bonehunters and I like it a whole lot better than the new artwork Transworld has started with Reaper's Gale.

I've thought about a thread about the cover art on most SF/F/H boox
being damaging to the public perception of the genre.
Shall I?

You know you want too

With a few notable exceptions, fantasy covers are normally horrific. Sci-fi isn't as bad, and horror is the worst of the lot...
