Okay, this should have been the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight. Better moves, better directing and camera work, cooler "action-moments," the works. Someone needs to give these guys a job in the movie industry.

I didnt think much of it really. I mean its done well but the fight is just corny. Theres stupid parts in it and they are annoying. Their not bad actors though. All the effects werent too bad either, it was just the fight and how the guy in blue died. I mean that was so #%*$

Hey,as an amateur fan thing it's quite thrilling actually and I love the limbs/torso hacking effects towards the end. Kudos for their enthusiasm and efforts. It's more fun than George Lucas' last 3 movies put together.

Hmm, odd because I think the fight was actualy far better than any official star wars fight (except perhaps the final Ep1 Duel) in terms of both the actual moves and the camera/editing work. I mean, yeah some of it is played for laughs (they both lose thier sabers, strike kung-fu poses then think better of it and run for thier weapons) but a lot of it I found far more interesting and exciting than anything George Lucas put out. More variation in the moves, and the moves were much more inventive as well. And I LOVED the way the guy in blue died.

Interesting. I thought the lightsaber duels were one of the few saving graces of the new trilogy. What didn't you like about them? I'm curious.

It has occurred to me whilst watching lightsaber duels that no one seems to have discovered the method of shutting down a saber when their opponent tries to block it, only to re-activate it once past the block. Your blows would become unstoppable.

the best lightsaber duel IMO was the original duel between obi-wan and darth vader in "a new hope".

not because the moves were slick, but because it was new and fresh and surprising.

ever since the first of the new star wars films, the lightsabre duels have become ordinary and expected at best, but more usually just tiresome. they are basically just ordinary swordfights with sharp swords.

oh yea, and the swords glow. every geek out there has got to love that.

and yes, ryan and dorkman did a good job with both of these fights, but they're imitating something which has been played out now for years.

the best lightsaber demonstration was that pudgy kid who was filmed trying to be a jedi and later lightsaber enhanced. at least that one had some comic value.

I liked those guys, they've done it alright if they had been quicker, it would indeed be a great duel. But for me, the best still is the one betweem Yoda and Dooku in the second movie.

Observing the real dynamics of how bodies move has, through study of martial arts, become fairly automatic for me, so it's almost impossible for me not to see the moves' practical flaws. So I have to consciously try to judge duals not by how they look but by their real role in the movie, which is to tell a part of the story. And for that, Darth Vader's fights in episodes 3, 5, and 6 are my favorites: friends turned enemies in 3, unwilling to kill his helpless son in 5, unwilling to fight or shocked out of even trying upon seeing his son's hatred of him in 6.

Yes they were one of the few saving graces in the new trilogy but I just didnt like how they were corriagraphed (dont know how to spell that). Some...Most of it was just hacking away at the other lightsaber and not trying tactics or anything. They didnt even use the force against each other.

I would write more but I have homework to do (a proposal for a story) and its due tomorrow.

There are some very funny moments in that clip about force using since they both have it their best chance is to focus on improving their speed and reflexes, since any force action can be cancelled by the other.
The bit when one guy calls his lightsaber and the other guy pushes his hand down so he hits himself in the head with it was great!
You have to see the ending of the first one to appreciate why using the force to call a lightsaber is dangerous...
