Out of the adult actors, who's the best?

We all know that the reason why we enjoy the Harry Potter films so much is because the amazing actors playing the "supporting" roles. Out of all the adult actors who do you believe has done the best job of portraying their particular character?

Alan Rickman as Snape. When I was reading the books before they became films, I could see Alan Rickman then. He did not dissapoint.

Rickman as Snape gets my vote. Maggie Smith makes a good Minerva too, but I dislike the new Dumbledore actor.

Re: Out of the adult actors, who's the best?

Rickman is a fantastic Snape, Maggie Smith an older than I pictured but nonetheless wonderful Minerva.

David Thewlis plays Lupin very well and Jason Isaac's Lucius Malfoy is wonderful...

Unlike most, I like Gambon's Dumbledore, well, like is too strong a word, I just prefer it to Harris'...

Julie Walters & Mark Williams do a fine job as the Weasley's too.

The one that really does it for me though is Fiennes as Voldie... he really does pull that role off with such style... and shuddery goodness...

I must admit I am looking forward to seeing Miss Bonham-Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange and Imelda Stanton as Dolores Umbridge too.

xx

Snape gets my vote too. I prefer the Dumbledore from the first films better than the newer hippie Dumbledore.

I like Alan Rickman, too... and the new Dumbledore is... well, awful
In fact, the actor I like the least is Daniel Radcliffe... but I tend to dislike major characters, so don't listen to me

I'm contributing to the Snape love-in!

I always thought Hagrid would be Scots, so hearing him Cornish never works for me.

It'd be cool to see Rik Mayall's Peeves make it off the cutting-room floor, becasue I think he's be a complete show-stealer. I also love Ed Tudor-Pole's ?Borgin? in the junk shop in film two - sadly only a DVD extra.

I agree with most of you for Alan Rickman. And I was disappointed as well about the new Dumbldore, he plays the character a little too "strong" for my taste.

Re: Out of the adult actors, who's the best?

I always see Dumbledore as very composed, soft spoken, and rarely given to displays of temper. I think my low opinion of the new actor is mostly because of two scenes in the 4th film: One - When he is talking about the triwizard cup and the way he says "Eternal glory", it just doesn't fit with the wise Dumbledore's opinion of self-seeking and arrogance (understand that this is the character i flesh him out with in my head).
Two - When he is obviously distressed and ranting that he can't see the links and find the plot behind the troubles in Hogwarts. I just didn't like the vehemence and energy in that scene, it didn't ring true of Dumbledore's methodical and, again, wise nature.

If anyone can paint me a better picture of Dumbledore so that he fits these scenes, please do

...and when he all but attacks Harry in his study, asking if he put his name in the cup, grabbing him by the color and pushing him backward. Another scene that didn't suit the character of the Books.

He's far too aggressive for Dumbledore, but Harris played him kinda senile!

Re: Out of the adult actors, who's the best?

I agree Happy; Sir Ian McKellen would have been my choice for the part, though it would have been difficult for some people to get past the fact that he played another powerful wizard just a few years ago. But it is my opinion Ian McKellen would have portrayed the character as he should have been portrayed.

Got to be Alan Rickman, with a "Highly Commended" for Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy - he just oozes villainy!

how does he talk like that without dislocationg his jaw? and HOW can he cram seventeen distinct syllables into the word 'you'?

Commonmind, really Ian McKellen? Really? It'd be good to see the audition tapes, then we'd know who was discarded...

Re: Out of the adult actors, who's the best?

Yes, really. He's a fantastic actor, and has that ability to appear genuinely warm, kind, and inviting, but can flip the coin very quickly, exuding this sense of power that is unspoken. I remember seeing the Lord of the Rings films for the very first time and thinking, man, he's a great Gandalf, but he'd also be a fantastic Dumbledore.
