| Our books Since I started Elastic Press in 2002 we've published 18 short story collections, and three anthologies. Some of these are now out of print, but the books listed below are all currently available either direct from us or via the usual outlets. We tend to publish a mixture of sf/f/h and some mainstream; occasionally within the same book. I tend to embrace the much misused and misunderstood description of "slipstream" for the type of work I prefer to read and publish. To find out what I mean by that, buy a book ![]() All our titles are reasonably priced between £5.00 to £6.99 plus p&p. Currently available: "Second Contact" by Gary Couzens - sf/f/h/mainstream stories - only a few copies of this 2003 title remain. "The Sound of White Ants" by Brian Howell - Japanese stories, with a twist of horror. Best description of some of these is to think of the movie "Audition". "The English Soil Society" by Tim Nickels - Back cover says it all really: "The stories of Tim Nickels defy easy categorisation. They might be folktales from an alternate world or eccentric fables written by creatures under the earth or from the stars". "Unbecoming" by Mike O'Driscoll. Urban horror stories where people are the monsters, not mythical beings. One of the stories from this book was recently adapted for the Masters of Horror TV series by Session 9 director Brad Anderson. "Extended Play" edited by Gary Couzens. This is our music-themed collection of short fiction, which also contains non-fiction by songwriters such as JJ Burnel (Stranglers), Chris Stein (Blondie), and Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) amongst others. "Photocopies of Heaven" by Maurice Suckling. SF stories with a grounded twist, this book plays with the short form by telling fiction in email, text messages, and via a cartoon strip as well as more traditional means. "So Far, So Near" by Mat Coward. Our most recent title and a down-to-earth SF book tackling dead ghosts, infestations of horses, and little green men, as well as pondering the eternal question: if time travel is possible then where are all the time travellers? Check us out. You won't be disappointed! |

| Re: Our books Our 1st May 2007 title, "Going Back" by Tony Richards, was launched at the Alt.Fiction event in Derby last Saturday. The event itself was excellent - some brilliant sales at the Elastic Press dealers table - and the launch itself went very well. "Going Back" is a collection of fourteen dark tales, and is a snip at £5.99 plus p&p. Pop along to the Elastic Press website where you can read a story extract and purchase the book ![]() |

| Re: Our books Our next Elastic title, "That's Entertainment" by Robert Neilson will be published on 1st August 2007. This is the blurb: “Superman was always a bastard.” “You can’t say that.” “It’s my autobiography. In my head, it’s always started with that line.” In these fourteen short stories entertainment is explored in all its forms, subtly twisted into alternate realities where music, boxing, film, and television distort history to sometimes comic, sometimes tragic effect. In Neilson’s science fiction, fantasy lives just around the corner from reality. What if John Lennon had been kicked out of the Beatles? What if Elvis’ twin brother had survived? What if we could go back in time to give reality TV a historical perspective? What if the Pope was Irish, a gambler, and needed to bet on a dead cert? Open this book and find out. “Here you'll find some very gritty and atmospheric stories, grainy with detail, ranging from bittersweet ironies of missed chances in the past to a harrowing account of exploitative near-future pugilism. John Lennon: now who on Earth was he? Bob Neilson is a great story-teller.” Ian Watson “A great new talent in storytelling” – Anne McCaffrey The limited edition lettered hardcovers are sold out on pre-orders but the paperback is available direct from us for £5.99 plus p&p. Visit www.elasticpress.com for more info. Cheers! Andrew |

| Re: Our books In a few weeks time we’ll be holding the launch of Jai Clare’s collection of stories, “The Cusp of Something”, and we’d love you to be able to attend. The event takes place on Sunday 4th November from 2pm until 4pm approx at the delightfully named Filthy McNasty’s Whiskey Café, 68 Amwell Street, London EC1. Jai will be reading from her collection, and entrance is – of course – FREE. The book will be available at £5.00 on the day, or you can order through the website at £5.99 plus p&p. The more the merrier, please come along and support us at the first London launch since “Extended Play” last year. For more info on the pub, look here: Filthy Macnasty's Whiskey Cafe Many of our titles are close to selling out, so please drop by the website and see what we have to offer before it's too late! | Re: Our books Arrrrggghhhhhhhh! Too many message boards and not enough time! I've been slack in coming here recently, but it's been an SF-filled year for us so far, and I might as well plug our book launch in London next Saturday 9th August from 2-6pm at the Citte of York pub, 22 High Holborn, London. All welcome - free entry! The launch is to promote books by Gareth L Powell (The Last Reef) and Chris Beckett (The Turing Test). Both authors have been much published in Interzone and elsewhere and both books are collections of the best of their output to date. Come along and have a beer and a chat and buy a book, or two... Also this year we published: Other Voices by Andrew Humphrey - mix of genres, but some SF Another Santana Morning by Mike Dolan - mostly SF Binding Energy by Daniel Marcus - fantastic SF by this multi-published in Asimov's author. Check us out ![]() |
