| Re: The Sleepless Trio Yes, I do sleep - just not very much, as I get older. I realised, with a start, a couple of years ago, that the days ahead were very likely not as many as the days gone: and I was horrified to also realise that there were very few of the days past that I could remember with any great clarity. I mean, I couldn't remember anything about the '80's at all! So now I'm trying to do as much as I can in the time available, and if that means going without some sleep, that's OK - there will be plenty of time to sleep when I can't see to type, or my legs won't work properly or whatever - then I'll sit in my chair and remember those I met here, and under the CHoR. The thing about the Chrons is (with one or two amazing exceptions) that the people on them are the pick: the people you might meet in real life maybe two or three times in your life ; the intelligent one, the ones that don't think that you're odd, or juvenile for liking SF/F: the ones that are well-read enough to pick up on allusions and quotes: and here you all are, concentrated, as it were, but also spread out around not only the world, but the clock as well. If I am awake at 3 am GMT, I know that for jd it's mid-evening, for Nesa it's late morning, and for Cul it's mid afternoon, approximately speaking. It means that there's almost always someone to talk to. Sorry to take such a serious view of what was a light-hearted inquiry - but there you are: Why I'm Nearly Always Here, in a nutshell. Alternatively, I am really Count Alucard, and never really sleep: nor do I drink...............wine! |

Yes, what Pyan had to say -- with bells on (if you can picture that... on second thought, don't try... )For me, it's because it's genuinely the first time in decades I've been around a fairly large group of clever, witty, sharp, and literate people... I've had it happen before, but not for a very long time. And just being able to be myself (whether that's serious and sesquipedalian in my speech, or zany, or short and pithy, or flat-out bizarre -- blobs on grills, Pyan? ) is quite unusual... and addictive.

| Re: The Sleepless Trio yeah addictive that's the word. I can see a couple of us sitting with a shrink saying: "I'm an addict of the chronicles" Then by the end of the therapy of course the shrink would be visiting chronicles too, but agh. I've stopped fighting, I know I'll just have to stay. |

As a repository for all manner of intelligentsia, cogniscenti, oddballs, outsiders and outcasts, the Chronic can't be beat!

| Re: The Sleepless Trio Yes, you really don't want to fly in a "Tin Goose", Curt - the reason they had three engines was to ensure you got there with at least two still running - and the instruments, for some bizarre reason, were outside the cockpit , and frequently froze solid! of course, the really cool way to go, would be by the latest in dirigibles.............. |
